What could make a tick-tick-tick sound from the front drivers side of the car????

I'm getting my oil changed on Monday and I want them to find out what the fuck is ticking in my engine compartment. It doesn't do it all of the time, but when it does, it drives me nuts!!!!!!!!

Sounds like someting that I had ACURA repair. I had a intermitent ticking sound coming from the guage pod. ACURA seemed to know of the problem because they took the gauge pod out and installed non vibration tape. I haven't heard a ticking sound since. Hope that helped.

Well, mine does it too. And it came from under the hood, right next to the firewall. It only ticks at idle. I checked it and I think it's normal. It doesn't sound that loud anyway.

Engine ticking?

That is a sign of oil starvation. Maybe you are low on oil or have been taking lots of hard turns so that oil cannot reach the entire engine...

Mine that does too. I just HAD to check your sig before I replied...but it's the way you installed the CAI. I trully believe it's something to do with the coolant pump because I only started to notice it AFTER I put my CAI in. If you do the install correctly...you would of had to replace the coolant line. Well...if you notice, the coolant lines that come with either the AEM or Injen, the walls might be thicker...but the overall size of the pipe is smaller. I can't verufy 100%, but I think the coolant pump is working extra hard to try to pump the same amount of fluid through a smaller pipe. BTW...if I had to reinstall my CAI all over again, I'd want to keep as much of the stock hoses as possible.

Quick Experiment: Have you ever tried to touch the aftermarket coolant lines after driving the car for awhile? The heat difference between the stock hoses over the aftermarket is VERY noticable. (The aftermaket lines are MUCH hotter)

Yeah, Gauge pod. The pod that contains all the gauges comes out in one piece. When I complained about the ticking noise they took out the pod and installed some tape. As I said above it worked.

I had a ticking noise on my car, too. It turned out to be the rubber damper/bolt where my Injen CAI connects to the side of the car... the 10mm nut had fallen off and it was vibrating. No more noise since replacing that.

Also, the "coolant pump" you refer to is the water pump, driven by the timing belt. The hose you replace/relocate/otherwise mess with when installing a CAI is a very small line intended to heat the throttle body in harsh [cold] climates. The rate at which coolant flows through this line isn't very high (it's nowhere near a main cooling 'circuit'), so restricting it isn't going to cause problems with the water pump (or cooling system in general) at all.

Yep...me too. It definitely doesnt sound like a loose part. It sounds more like an overdriven pump.

I think it's some sort of valve. I pin-pointed the source and you could feel the pulse on of the hoses. I think it's normal.

Here is something I learned from a mechanic a long time ago. If you want to verify whether it's some sort of pump, alternator, or engine component; place a long screwdriver on the surface of the component and the sound will transmit through while you listen at the end of the screwdriver grip. Be careful not to stick it into any rotating component!!

I had that ticking noise in my both my CL-S's. Went to 2 different dealers with the 2nd car and they said it was normal When you pop the hood, it really gets annoying. If anybody else has any insight I'd like to know. I'm curious as to what that sound was.
