Way better MPGs after Katrina

In addition to the acetone mpg thread.

Mystery tank. 400 miles. One tank only. Union 76 station. Same one I always go to. Seems to burn much better, pedal response definitely better.

However...right after Katrina, 'bout a day or two. Buddy with a Toy Tacoma and my '01 CLS we both noticed wayy better response. Bam I get 400 miles from the tank. (I usually only get 300-320 which IMO sucks, I'm looking into plug change or ??? to rectify). He gets 25% better mileage on his tank. My pedal is snapping a much better response. All for only one tank tho.

Cashiers told me it is the exact same delivery company every time. I'm in process of finding out whom, as the drivers can be super helpful.

Conspiracy theory. Did George DouBullYou let some "great" gas out accidently right after Katrina? Do refineries usually mess up good gas so as to cause it to give less mileage thus keeping the oil pigs profits rising?

Before you tell me to put down my crack pipe, look at a San Diego tv stations expose on Big oil and gas. Click on the icons that show INTERNAL HIGHLY CONFIDENTIAL memos from Mobil, Chevron and especially Texaco. Texaco saying in 1999 "the biggerst threat to our profits is oversupply, we need to create a bogus undersupply" -paraphrasing.

I think you do have a hole in your tank! I get 300-400+ miles per tankfull depending upon city/highway driving.

As for this mystery gas... umm, put down the crack pipe??

Freeway driving, you can get up to around 28-30MPG
City driving will put you around 21-24MPG

Every so often I'll get 400MILES to the tank, but that's whenever i'm driving on the freeway the whole time

dunno if it makes a difference, but the EPA got rid of some some environmental additives after Katrina so that gas could be produced easier.

I easily break over 300 also, but thats with 80% highway. If you drive on the street most of the times, you will NEVER see 300 miles. I usually get 200-250 per tank since i drive hard and mostly in the city!

I actually had one fill up right after Katrina that got me 400 miles per tank, and it was regular instead of my usual high octane.

As far as the difference you guys are seeing in miles per tank, I think the two big differences would be ...

1. Are you driving in lots of stop and go city traffic, or all highway traffic?

I have gotten over 400 Miles per tank several times when I am on all highway roadtrips with no traffic.

2. When do you fill up your tank and how many gallons does it take? My low fuel indicator light seems to come on when I still have about 4-4.5 gallons of gas left.

Our cars have 17 gallon tanks, and if I fill up as soon as the light comes on the car usually only takes about 13 gallons or less.

Usually I will drive another 50 miles once the light comes on... I have had the needle all the way down to the bumper near E and the most gas my ever took during a fill up was 15.5 gallons.

According to my owners manual, the Idiot Light comes on 3 gallons before 'empty.' I avg. 280 miles/13.5-14gal ( i usually fill up when the Light comes on) ~ 50% VTEC 1-2-3 city and 50% 75-85mph cruise highway. I hit 376 miles/fulltank(16.5gal) on a roadtrip this past summer, including a very brief run to the top end, 30 seconds of pedal to the floor (140+)

OMG, I normally just break 200 miles to the tank, but after katrina, I actually broke 3miles to the tank!!!

I thought I was trippin, but its was true, only filled up twice since Katrina. Whatever it is, I hope it stays that way, even though Gas is more expensive, i saved money by getting more miles to the tank, go figure.
