Type S - Idle Problems, Dealer not Helping

I bought a new CL-Type S August of 2000, and suddenly began having idle problems in early November. Brought it into the dealer 3 times told me they couldn't find anything wrong and that the couldn't duplicate the problem that I was having (when I start the car the RPM's would jump up and down between 100 - 2000 RPM and then drop down to 0 RPM and die !!!) It only happened about once a week or so, until 20th of December when I couldn't start the car for almost 30 minutes, and finally the Check Engline Light went on. Well guess what, this is a computer problem, and Acura doesn't yet have a solution, they are working to bring out a new chip in February, which is also the time I will be getting back my car. Now I have to drive around in a 2000 TL as the loaner car, and I am really getting pissed off. I will end up being 2 months without a car for which I am still paying for. Anybody have any suggestions, I think this is just rediculous. I called Acura help line and someone is supposed to call me back, haven't heard anything yet. the car is 6 month's old and 2 of those months have been spent at the dealership !!! What would you do in my Situation,

Thanks

A Really pissed off CL owner.........

Alex

I think it takes 3 months for the lemon law to kick in so see if you can stall them for another month. And who cares if you driving a TL in the mean time, that is just miles you're not putting on your car.

Be happy you have a nice ride in the mean time, and be glad your car wasn't a 99 Cobra. I spent months in the shop and NEVER got a loaner.............try that for a piss off. Acura will get it right. By the way, did you ask the dealer about removing the part from an existing unsold unit on the lot? If he knew you were serious about the lemon law perhaps this would expedite your repairs.

Refer to your state's Lemon Law to see if you qualify for a replacement / refund.

In CA, if your car is out of commission for more than 30 days for repair in the first 2 years of ownership you are entitle to a replacement/refund, less mileage of course...

According to the dealer this is a problem which is now becoming common on the CLs and the reason that I am waiting fot the Chip to be released in February, is because that chip will have all of the problems corrected on it. I am not sure if this is something that could cause a recall or just a replacements in certain cases. All I know is I miss my car, and the TL doesn't even come close to it....

I bought a new 98 Accord Coupe. Had a V6 engine and fully loaded. Hot selling car, if at the time you could find one ! I put my "club" on the steering wheel and it caused over 1800.00 in damage, needed a new Air bag and Honda didn't have any on hand, sooooooo I got a POS rental and was without my car for over a month ! Yes it was brand stinking new and sat on the lot for over a month....I know how you feel, but come on man, they gave you a 2000 TL ! You could have gotten a Geo Metro rental, that would be lovely in the mountains ! Patience is golden in this case. They will remember you and take care of you from this time on. Keep your temper down and stay professional and that dealership when fixed and over, will continue to kiss your ass !
