Turbo - Manual vs AV6
 

So, say I was able to find some one who could install a turbocharger for me, considering I don't have the expertise to do such a task. I understand it's not done on these cars for 3 such reasons, being:
1. Little to no after market support
2. Transmissions will die quicker than normal, let alone blow completely at reasonable PSI
3. Expensive, let alone rare/difficult, to find some one who will attempt it.
But if it were to be done, would it be possible for the transmissions sake on a manual transmission? How about if the CL-S had an AV6 swapped in it? Could the AV6 automatic withstand? I have more hopes for the Manny tranny withstanding boost, but how much for either would they would stand?

While the AV6 is considered to be more reliable than the other 5-Speed automatics which will bolt into a CL-S, it was not designed to deal with much more than a normally aspirated 3.5, so turbocharging your engine will most likely shorten the life of the transmission. That said, you may get say, twenty or thirty thousand miles out of it, so if you don't mind swapping transmissions every couple of years, that is probably your best bet. The thing is, if you can do the R&R work yourself, you can buy quite a few AV6 transmissions for what it would cost to convert your car to a 6MT.

With the above said, your best option to get a 6MT car would probably be to sell your current car and put the proceeds toward buying one with the 6MT already in it from the factory. That will cost you a heck of a lot less than trying to convert your car.

or buy a cheap turbo car to begin with...ecoboost mustangs come to mind. throw a tune on it and gain 40 horses just by clicking some buttons.

Let's just say you have the 5+ grand to fabricate the turbo manifold and buy all the parts..
the name of the game is; Build it, Race it, Break it....then do it all over again...
are you ready to throw more money than you make at the car?

if this isnt something you want to do; just buy a car that ALREADY has a turbo from the factory.

Thanks for the replies. I will take this all into consideration and no longer have any interest in turbo. I will probably just do a simple J35 swap if you can consider that simple.

My co-worker says to buy an old B series Civic and boost the shit out of it if you want cheap and fast...
