Which transmission is the latest BGFA/MGFA
Looks like some people are getting replacements that are labeled with BGFA, and others are getting MGFA. What does this all mean? Is it all meaningless, or one is the latest and other one is not?
|
One thing to note, is your sticker new looking? Mine was discolored and old looking, seems like it was the original sticker.... One theory is that MGFA was only put earlier in 2005+, and then they stopped re-labeling and just keep the old label (BGFA)? I see couple people in 2009 (including myself) getting BGFA replacements.
Unless there is a conspiracy theory going on and Acura started installing old design again because they don't give a crap anymore ? |
one things for sure. No more auto honda acura for me, and prolly not another honda/acura!

Not a good idea to rule out Honda/Acura in future. They did screw up big time, but they learned their lesson, and they paid a price for it (not only warranty replacements, but also customers like you not ever coming back). Acura/Honda made after 2004-2005 have very reliable transmissions, maybe even more reliable than their competitors, I don't think they want this transmission scare to ever come back, 2nd time in a row would be a disaster for the company
Honda/acura isnt supposed to have this problems! I would much rather have a manual in my next car anyways, maybe this is just persuasion? |
According to the helms manual BGFA was used in 2001,2002 and mgfa in 2003. I had my tranny replaced in late 2005 and mine a MGFA. I really dont think it atters its just the case design.. I was told that they made the interior around the 3rd gear clutch pack more roomy in 2005 but when my tranny was being rebuilt they had a TL tranny apart w/oil jet and he really could not tell the difference between the 2... And the MGFA was put in 2003 and they did not start upgrding the insides untill 2005 so I think the inside , gears/clutchpacks are different not the case.. I tried getting some answers about the tranny but every DLR tell u something different and most dealers don t even know there is a exterior filter on the trans so how r they gonna know about the upgrades.. I think its all BS but thats just my personal opinion.. I also read that changing the 3rd and 4th gear pressure soliniods every 50K will keep the trannys going cuz when they go bad the tranny shifts really sloppy producing more wear on the clutch packs..
I thought the MGFA was the upgraded model but if it was upgraded in 2005 then why did the 2003 CLs all get MGFA according to the helms manual... There is ore problems witth errany other then 3rd gear there torque converters in our cars suck also!! |

I think its starting to make sense. What manual says is correct, and probably means that factory (original) transmissions on 03 are labeled as MGFA, while factory 01,02 are labeled with BGFA
However, when transmission fails, they re-use whatever case they get. So looks like StonedCL got a case which used to be original in 03 model. Like I said before, my sticker looked old and discolored, something indicative of time. It certainly looks like an original sticker that was put on a case when the case was manufactured. Probably all modifications for 2005 are really inside, and cases are identical. |
I have original trans in my 03. It's labeled bgfa.

Wonder if that is what facility the trans was built in?
|
well my old one was a bgfa and my new one is a bgfa...however there is an additional new sticker on it...they told me they rebuild the tranny with better stronger parts...lol...ya right...i don't think the stickers mean anything..they are re-using old cases..i think

Does anyone work at ACURA or know anyone that works at Acura that has some knowledge on the situation... Cuz most of us know more then the average service writer but maybee someone knows a regional service guy of a head tech thats been there for 10 years that knows what the difference is between BGFA and MGFA transes!

Here is a pretty cool PDF on our transmission... all the soliniods and what goes where ect..

A ten year thread bump? Why?
The truth is, this information is so very much out of date as the BAYA transmission from the 2006-2007 V6 Accord is the go to transmission for the 2G CL. |
