I finally got around to installing my shift cable bushings I had in my toolbox for 2 years. I just wasn't into installing them. Today I had my IceBox out for maintenance & the TB off for cleaning of it & The IAC valve. They were right there so I put them in. Took only a few minutes.
OMG!!!! The shifting is so TIGHT & PRECISE.
These are a MUST have for 6 speeds!

lol.. i waited 4 years to do it on my probe... used a part at my hot tub store for my car... happened to fit PERFECTLY.... and the stick shift was so fucking firm and immaculate I was in utter shock and amazement...

I wish I could share your excitement...

After all the rave reviews, I ordered the bushings a few weeks ago. Handed them over to my mechanic and they did not fit. I received 6 identical sized bushings (no retainer clip, no cotter pins) but the OEM bushings are 2 different sizes.

At any rate, none of the 6 would fit as replacement for the OEM bushings. They were too big for the small OEM bushings and too small for the larger OEM bushings. Man I was pissed....

I am hoping Corsport rectifies this....

What car did you get them for? I know they now sell the CL bushings, but I got mine for the RSX which are the same size.

the shifter has a bolt running through the bottom of it, that bolt holds on the linkage rod in place and the firmness of that connection is what creates your driving experience inside the car.

What I did for my previous car:

FYI i order bushings online which turned out to be POS that didn't fit so i used a hot tub part instead.

took out the bolt, (where the linkage bar meets the bottom of the shifter. Bend the linkage end(s) so they point out in a V shape... this is going to make the room for the polyurethane bushings.

So u put a bushing on each side of the shifter, wedge the slightly bent linkage bar over that.... and the bitch part is now getting that bolt to go through everything.. and tighten that up cautiously! every 1/4 turn will make a MILE of difference once everything is all in place.

So you will need to tweak it to your preferred stiffness liking.


OH and:

USE A LOCK BOLT so it will never loosen

it's one of those things after U do.. u wonder how the hell u put up with such BS for so long.

No it doesnt. Your car had a rod linkage, ours is cable.

You unclip the C clip, pry the old bushing out, slip the new bushing in, reinstall C clip.

no. ur not touching the clutch, maybe shorten it when u slam the gears and what not.

yep. installed them earlier this year and recommend it.

Critically speaking I would say none. The shifter feels smoother, more precise and less stiff after the bushing mod. I did the Neuspeed short shift mod about a month before the bushings. The short shift mod really didn't reduce the throw that much and made the shifter notchy and a bit stiff. The bushings smoothed this out well. Very flickable now. Excellent performing and pretty easy mod w/o a downside as far as I can tell after two years.

I was close to changing the shifter mcables becasue my shifter felt like spaghetti, someone suggested these bushings, and when I got them, I thought it was a joke. Installed them and was like, WOW! what a difference they made, just get some lithium grease and pop them in, do a search for these things in the forums and find out some tips on how to pop the old bushings out (screwdriver thru the middle and twist). Wonder why the factory doesn't make the bushings this way, with the short shifter, it feels great.

potentally more vibration/harshness in the shifter with increased noise, so increased NVH (as called by the manufactures), but for most people, it does not bother them at all, they just love the firmer and more precise shifts

Yes and when you try it on the CL-S 6spd that potential added NVH doesn't occur.

which is why i said POTENTIAL, some cars are better at absorbing the extra NVH, especially shifters actuated by cables vs ones with rods like the old civics

Congrats Fuzzy! I've been sitting with mine in a box on my back seat waiting until I get under the hood to do the timing belt... Maybe I'll pop mine in this weekend even if I can't do the t-belt (need stands, good weather, crankshaft bolt removal tool still)
