Smile Shifter Counterweight disconnected

So i just bought an 03 Acura CL Type S a couple days ago for a STEAL... 1000 bucks with 100k on the motor (219 on the body) because the shifter counterweight wasnt connected, basically the guy told me the pin on the inside of the trans fell out of the shaft of the counterweight and he didnt want to mess with the transmission... Anyone had this happen or have any wisdom they are willing to share on it? Im dropping the trans in the morning to pull it apart.

Just hope you can find the 8mm special bolt (#9); 8mm spring washer (#10); and shift arm(#1) inside the tranny and they have not caused any damage. Refer to the link below and the attachment:

I am pretty sure the special bolt you are mentioning is suck between the shift arm and something else because the shift would move back and forth (3rd-4th) but wouldn't go left or right... Thank you lots for the info

Yeah I don't know how something like this can just "Fall out"... Honda/Acura makes their stuff pretty well and plan ahead on stuff like this =//
Maybe the guy drove it pretty hard while he had it... He put one of those "Superchips" in it that plug into the obd port, no idea if it does anything at all but even if he did drive it hard and possibly brought down longevity im not too worried because I plan on putting a lower mileage j32a2 in it (Original motor was swapped out for a j32a1)

Just an FYI, you can also 'drop in' a more powerful J35A3 from an '01-02 MDX with just a few 'switch over' modifications. Presuming that the J32A1 in it now is six speed compatable, you can do the same to make the J35A3 six speed compatible.

Parts you need to take from the J32A1:
lower timing belt pulley gear/reluctor ring
crank sensor assembly; timing belt stopper plate; crank sensor sub harness
front cam pulley/backing plate/camshaft TDC sensors assembly and harness
connecting pipe and the water jacket assembly

My car IS a type S but I'm not too sure what all the guy before me did to swap in this base model motor... I have thought of going the j35 route but don't they make less power in favor of more torque?? My car is a six speed also
And thank you for the info on what i'm gonna need, and recommendations on a decent (Preferably not too expensive clutch)? I was just gonna go with oem specs on it.

The J32A1 came out of the '99-03 TL-P; '01-03CL-P; which were all automatics; therefore, whomever swapped the J32A1 in place had to make it 'six speed compatable' by using the parts stated above. Otherwise, it would not be 'plug-n-play' to the '03 CL-S6.

Ah okay, I did not know this... I am not too fond of the v6 history of honda, my other car is a civic and its in the works of being built for 300whp

This makes the J35A3 an even better choice, IMHO.
I will have to look into it, I was already interested in it but didn't think it was too necessary... But who doesn't like some extra power

Will do, thanks for the recommendation. I was already looking at the Luk OEM Replacement anyways so ill grab the flywheel while im at it! Thanks again for all the info, helps a lot

Yeah, I got the transmission out and I'm gonna be taking it to a shop. Pulled the bell housing and checked it out, the trans itself looked great but that pin was kinda floating around. Luckily didn't look damaged and nothing else looked damaged at all!

I know you are on a budget; however, while the transmission is out ask the shop to check out the differential bearings for wear (#7 & 8 on the link below). If that car has 219K on the body, it's reasonable to think that's how much is on the tranny. Hopefully, the shop won't find any other internal damage.

While true I AM on a budget, I know that a replacement on this trans can get real expensive real fast so I told them to do whatever they think is necessary and I don't mind paying if they think to fix any risks. I want this done right the first time! It isn't like a civic where a new motor/trans isn't even 300 bucks :gheylaugh:
