Red Wrinkle Valve Covers?

I've been looking everywhere for someone that has done this to the J32, but have only found people with the C32 that have had it done. Does anyone on here have theirs done? Pictures? I have the paint, but debating whether to do the valve covers, JUST the top part of the intake manifold and the intake piping. and then everything else wrinkle black and polished.

Check "show off engine bay" thread on photograph gallery. I think I saw someone did that.

Yeah, I think a LITTLE more, not much, red would set it off nicely... Now I just need to figure the wire tuck for the engine bay on this pig... Civics/Preludes were easy, this looks like a nightmare.

Agreed... But I think with the some elbow grease and help from one of my friends, we can clean it up and make it pretty... I haven't even cleaned my engine bay since I bought it back in Feb of this year. lol

please don't compare our cars to fords.... I'm not a fan... even though a local guy has a 500 HP Tauras SHO.

I think ours are prettier than this:

but even that has the option of this:

Those cars offered more HP per liter than any other car other than the Corvette when released in '89. Wish we had SHO engines. If only 3.2L in our cars responded to boost like they do. If they did I'd have supercharged a long time ago.

Yeah, I think our engines look best w/ the plastic covers on.

The Yamaha engine is sexy. One thing that Ford did right back then.

So you assume Honda engines cant take boost because our car only has one option(comptech charger) that is too small for our engine and runs at very little boost and we lack aftermarket engine management. That is not the engines fault. Also our engine isn't ugly, and if you don't like it there are multiple ways to make it look better. Powdercoating, tucking, polished p2r plenums etc.

I honestly think our intake manifolds are ugly. But it was meant to live under a plastic cover, so I cant ask for much. There are ways to make them look better. But I still think the old J30 manifold from the first gen CL is better looking then ours (it kind of mimics the Yamaha manifold where you see the runners).

If you want a supercharger, get the M90. That will get you into the mid-high 300s on the 3.2l and run much more efficiently then the M62 in the CT kit (plus its less expensive then the CT kit new vs new). An emanage blue, F/IC6 (or 8 if you desire the additional features) or AEM EMS will work.

Thoes are some of the cleanest SHO's I've seen. I thought some of teh SHO's had Yamaha V8's????? Was I wrong, they are all V6's?

The 96-up had the 3.4l V8. All the others were V6s. The V8 used a Cosworth block and Yamaha heads.

Yup. '89-'95 were 3.0L V6 for the manual transmission. In '93-'95 an automatic was introduced with a 3.2L to make up for drivetrain loss. Still 220HP but increased torque. Swapping the 3.2L heads to the 3.0L engine is common. Too bad Yamaha wasn't involved in the latest SHO. They do have offer what they call an SHO engine in their FX SHO waverunner. 4-cylinder supercharged. 215HP from a waverunner is a bit nuts and they make aftermarket kits to bring it in the 295HP range.

Wrinkle paint is specific, not all paint wrinkles just because you bake it.

Thanks, just a bit late though.

I went and took my manifold off and painted it with some rattle can Krylon and threw them in the oven and wouldn't you know Krylon is EFFIN FLAMABLE! SOB. Now I'm out $900 for a new stove, and the fire department said I should expect a bill for running 3 trucks out to my house!

What a day!

Oh my! Well the mod cost you more than you thought! At least no one was hurt other than the poor stove!

Well, even though the oven is one way to do it, I'll be trying it with a high temp (800°-1200°) heat gun on the rear cover and I'm not painting the entire intake manifold. The plenums will be polished, the manifold will be black wrinkle, the top cover will be red wrinkle & polished and the runners will be black wrinkle as well (If I take it that far). The Outlaw Engineering IM kit should be here tomorrow, so I'll paint tomorrow night and let it cure most of Saturday. Hopefully have some nice clean pictures come Sunday.
