Really odd headlight problem....really odd. help!

Ok, so some set up. My headlights have been running great. I haven't replaced the HID's, highbeams, nothing. Been running 100% since the day I got the car. No problems until I got into the car today/tonight and turned the headlights on.

Heres what happens:

first click of the lights- side markers/turns come on just fine

second click of the lights- right headlight comes on, left headlight is off and high
beams are on at like 45% power. looks like they are about to burn out

click the high beams on- HID light turns off, and high beams come on full power, left side HID still out

what could the problem be?

Same thing just happened to me,check my Thred.check fuse box under your hood in the back on the left and see if your headlight fuse is blown. Bet your ballast is bad

Another user had a similar problem a day ago and it turned out to be a bad ballast causing an electrical problem with all the lights. Seems very similar to his problem. He just bought an aftermarket HID kit and is replacing both ballast/bulbs/etc so he doesn't have to worry about the other ballast. There is a group buy in the BM for kits, like $60. GL!

Ok so I checked the fuses and the headlight fuse (left) was blown. So I put another one in, blew immediately. Does this mean I have a bad ballast? Is it too expensive to just replace one? What makes them go bad?

our ballasts are not sealed like new models, so moisure can get in and fry them. It's probably your ballast. Put some silicone where the wires come out on your new one.

^^^ i was just about to say that you have a short also. Check the wires and make sure they're not frayed or sitting next to something that could ground it.

Sometimes the insulation on the wire looks fine but the wiring inside might be bad. Do a voltage drop test on the battery to ballast

one of the connectors on my left headlight would get loose somehow and the headlight would turn off. it was driving me crazy. so i plugged the connector in and put a ziptie around it. not the same problem u have but check the wires.
