Quad Exhaust Feeler

Just a general feeler.

Would there be enough interest for a quad-tip exhaust system, or dual-oval tips?

Feel free to chime in or give out some constructive criticism as I'm just gauging this project out.

Something along the lines of the new TL Type - S exhaust set up? i think that would look insane. I always wondered what quad turned up exhaust would look like on the CL. It certainly enough room cut out of the rear bumper to make the tips look like they are supposed to be there. would really make the car stand out i think.

I was actually thinking about this the other night when I was sitting behind an E55 at the light. The quad exhaust on those looks so nice.

A photo chop might help.

I think something that is very unique, not just two pipes next to eachother, but something like a tube in tube design, with a tapered connecting flange, liek this:

even then, it would have to have the pipes very close to eachother, even slightly merged like on the poirsche or something.

Heh, funny thing is those were the exact same tip's I had in mind. Two dual's on each side with tapered edge's, (as shown), and also staggered to the curvature of the rear body lines.

I'm not sure if the intersecting pipes would flow too well within the given space the CL exhaust cutout has. I'm not as advanced in photoshop as you ron, but if you have some free time feel free to PM me with what you had in mind.

can it be custom made? what are the limits to the options?> because I would say one full exhasut tip and halph of the second tip would look and fit perfect, liek a blend of what I posted earlier and this:

someone put quad exhaust on a CL a long time ago. I believe it was on a SDG CL.

It looked pretty good, definitely unique.

Yeah that looks hot, but that's not with the OEM bumper. It'd probably be better to see it on a stock bumper to get a better idea of how it'd look for most of us. I suck at photoshop, but I guess I'll try to put something together if I can.

I'm getting an HKS Axleback muffler pair and I'm going to have a shop retro fit them on, should look fine with the RonJon Rear and a painted rear diffuser in matte anthracite.

I was talking with my mechanic about this three days ago. So yes I am interested. The porche tips are not for me. I want tips like the first pair shown above. I saw this three years ago on a CLS here. Dont remember who it was but the individual tips like on the M5 and M3 look so fing sick on the CLS. Besides I think the porche tips, which I dont like, are $250 or more each before install.

No, I'm leaning more towards the tips such as the individual tips similar to those shown in the first picture. I believe the individual tips, if done right, will accompany the stock bumper as well as any after market lip/bumper.

I have a good feeling for the tips, but I do need some more feedback in regards of the tone/loudness we should aim for. There are some that want a loud exhaust, and some that need a quiet exhaust because they have an AT.

Just feel free to post your opinions.

without going to a 6" fart cannon, how would individual quad tips that fit in the OEM bumper change the sound of the car? we are talking about using the OEM muffler right?

That's what I was thinking. For a decent sound though, I think magnaflow mufflers would be the way to go, with the custom quad tips.

Why is the noise level of the exhaust differ between automatic transmissions and manual transmissions?

I just realized, a big problem would be a single outlet visible from the muffler branching out into two would look retarded. it would have to be two pipes coming out of the muffler itself, which would not be easy as just tips.

I was thinking more of a full exhaust system. I've tried many different setups by using tips only...and with anything other than a single tip...it just looks plain ugly on the stock mufflers.

That's what I was thinking. For a decent sound though, I think magnaflow mufflers would be the way to go, with the custom quad tips.
Yea, it will be using custom mufflers, not the stock ones.

Why is the noise level of the exhaust differ between automatic transmissions and manual transmissions?
Sorry, let me elaborate. It's not really the noise level, but rather the cabin sound/drone. With a manual car, you are able to control the sound and prevent it from sounding too bassy inside your car which can get very annoying.

I just realized, a big problem would be a single outlet visible from the muffler branching out into two would look retarded. it would have to be two pipes coming out of the muffler itself, which would not be easy as just tips.
Yes, that is one of the main reasons I would not stick with the stock mufflers. Yes, it would be a lot cheaper, but that is also how your car will look with "add on tips". The muffler doesn't have quiet the distance from the bumper to pull of a single-dual tip outlet. This means that most likely you can see that the tips are just added on and you can also see how it just turns into one pipe. Very tacky, and degrading which I wouldn't do to my own car. Reminds me of the cheap fixed up tercels!

It would be a custom build muffler, with a single in, and dual exit pipes on each side so it gives of a very clean, OEM style look.

What do you guys think?

Yes I have dimples all over the rear lip and the rear sections of the side skirts. The guy who installed it put way too much adhesive and its slowly bending the urethane. It sucks theres no way to fix it, im buying new sides and rear doing it all over again this spring.
