Don't know if anyone saw my post above, but I found that my IMRC is not working. Do we know for a fact that gas mileage can/will decrease with the IMRC not functioning?

Well the dealer said the IMRC is definitely not working, not because it is broken, but because the PCM is not sending the 0v signal to the IMRC to open up after 4000rpm. The PCM is being replaced. I'll report back with the gas mileage change, if any.

is the purge solenoid valve located under the driver side rear seat? I have a ticking noise under there with CEL code p1457. I know this code is associated with all that crap down there. (evap canister) Sorry if I'm hijacking the thread. Unintentional

I'll have to check my manual, but I think that's a code that says the purge valve isn't working at all. On mine they replaced it once & the valve was bad, it was giving me a code(I think it was that one) They had to replace it again. The valve is on the firewall, but it may be causing the canister(which is under the seat area) to make noise if the valve isn't working.

I wouldn't want to switch my dealer, I am very happy with their service.

Maybe I'm must losing it, but I remember my car changing over at about 4200-4500 and then at 4800 VTEC opening up all the way. The first change is the actuator bypass valve opening up right? I had that replaced, but the engine still doesn't make that first change over 4200-4500 rpms. Any thoughts...could this be because of a bad PCM that Moodist was talking about. The techs didnt' really know what I was talking about and said things were fine....also, VTEC doesn't engage all the time....any ideas?

"Leak Detected in EVAP Control System"
On mine it was cause by a bad purge valve that was not holding vacuum.

Heres my update:

The PCM was replaced, the actuator replaced, and the PSV was replaced.

Finally the power is back and I actually believe my gas mileage may be up also. Gotta wait some more before I report back with long-term results.

Sorry guys Im only posting so this thread will go to my email.
JUST the other day, (after being layed up for about a month) I noticed a really loud really constant ticking under the hood (at first glance it sounds like its coming from the rear of the engine bay) I don't know if it changes with the RPMs yet.....Anyway hopefully it will be an something easy like one of these things.

I doubt this thread would have been bumped anymore.

For future reference, at the top of the thread, click "thread tools" and select "subscribe to thread". that way you can watch thread in your email without posting in it if you like.

I went to the dealer with all of this written down and he said they would have to do a test but that if anything was wrong it would just come up in the check engine light I told him I didnt think so and he said if i want pay the 600 to have it fixed. I got pissed and told him to fuck off that I wanna see the manager and the mager told me that if anything was wrong it would show on the check engine light. I wanna just do it myself but I do not know how to change it, anyone have a diy?

Danmit, i'm going to bump this thread, i got the ticking and I swaerr, if it wasn't for AZ, I would have had a Hell of a time figuring this out. This is like problem # 24 that was diagnosed thru here. Gonna go check my IMRC valve. Car is real fast, but i can't hear VTEC change sounds at higher RPMs like it did in my old Auto CL-S.
I wonder if that valve can be fixed, or does it have to be replaced?

Your car is under warranty, just verify that the IMRC is not working and then take it to the dealership. They should replace it under warranty.

Would this cause a Vacuum like sound in addition to the Ticking? My car makes a sound like, a vacuum that sucked up a ball and got stuck. It happens at the lowest of RPM's with a short delay of pressing the gas pedal down.

Anyone else ever have this problem?

you got an AEM intake? If so, that sound is normal. Nothing to do with the ticking.

Anil, it has something to do with the Evaporative Emission Control System (EVAP).

From page 11-29 of the Helms (if you want to know stuff like this, buy the helms, I'm too lazy to scan right now):

The EVAP controls minimize the amount of fuel vapor escaping to the atmosphere. Vapor from the fuel tank is temporarily stored in the EVAP control canister until it can be purged from the canister into the engine and burned.
Since it's emissons related, I can't see how it could affect gas mileage that much, but people have mentioned that a ticking purge valve has hurt gas mileage before...

Yeah, the purge value pulls a vacuum to purge the fuel vapor, so that might be normal

Since I've had the windows down lately (spring is finally here ), I've noticed my purge valve is ticking, and I heard the "sucking" sound when I turned my car off today...

No, in fact I thought it might just be a dirty air filter, but I switched that out.

Are you planning on replacing the purge valve? I'd be curious to know if it fixes the vacuum sound...I'm heading out of town for a couple weeks, so my car is going to sit quietly in the garage.

Yeah, I really should get around to it, but I'm not sure when... It's doesn't really bother me (yet), but since it's only like $40 and is easy to replace, I should do it...

Oh, I went out last night, and made sure the windows where open when I shut off the car. Didn't hear anything, so it's not making the vacuum sound consistantly...

I can hear ticking when the hood is open and I stick my head to it. Should I replace it or wait until it gets louder?

I just replaced mine and it still ticks but not as loud. I'm guessing to replace it when it gets really loud. It acts like a pump, thats why its "ticking"

uhh, why should we replace this if its ticking? only to make the sound go away? Or is it for maybe slightly improved MPG?
