Potential CL-S Buyer - A few qeustions...
I'm getting ready to sell my '98 Camaro SS. I'm looking for a car with good performance, a nice ride, and a quiet interior. I know that the CL-S won't have quite the kick in the seat performance that my modded 410 hp Camaro has, but I think 260 hp will have sufficient get-up-and-go to keep me from being too frustrated while driving.
Anyway, the question I have is about the interior noise levels (road noise, wind noise, rattles, etc.). How is the CL-S in this respect? How does it compare to the competition (Audi, BMW, Lexus). Am I dreaming? I just want a car that I can carry on a conversation with a passenger in without having to strain to listen or yell to be heard.
Just for references as to where I'm coming from, I would classify my Camaro SS as very loud inside with lots of road and wind noise. My Durango 4x4 is better, but not as quiet as I'm looking for. I rode in my neice's Lexus once and that was nice. I've heard the Audi has a "supurbly" quiet interior.
So how about it? Give me some feedback.
Thanks.
Shawn S.

My cl is new. The road noise is fairly low. You hear the engine at high rpm but it is not loud. The Camaro is RWD right? That will be a big difference. My last car was RWD and that is the biggest adjustmend for me.

Happy CL-S Pilot
Little bit of noise from my 01' side mirrors ( could have been corrected in the -02-3 models).
A little bit of noise from my snow tires ( my summer tire are dead silent )
Wind speed makes a difference too. The less wind the better.

Welcome to the board!!!! I don't think that you will be disappointed!!! I am sure some of the BMW's and Audi's are quiter, you will have to test drive them all to really find out. Good luck with your choice. And by the way, you can't sign your name with Shawn S. we already have one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He is quite active, I am sure you will see him soon!!!! Keep us posted with your decision, no matter what it is!!!!

Travelling at about 90-100, this car is quiet except the mirrors, which are different in 02 and 03 so its nothing u need to worry about.

I noticed in either Road and Track or Car and Driver in one of their recent issues where they rate cars by best and worst of the year for acceleration, gas mileage, noise, etc, they listed the Acura TL-S as the quietest at 70 MPH. This is not bad considering how quiet the Lexus LS430 is known for being. (I don't think the CL-S would be much different)

It depends also....the Type-S is acutally quieter than the P...cuz the $200+ OEM Michelins were designed for ride and road noise. The new models are supposed to have thicker glass and the smaller mirrors are supposed to gut down on the wind noise....so, come to think about it...it should be on par with a Lexus....remember the 5spd auto cruises 80 at 2250rpms....hardly revving at all.

I would say quieter than average. Not much engine noise unless your winding out to redline & wind & road noise are relatively low.
Above 90mph wind noise gets pronounced & I think the
50 series tires & firmer springs/shocks generate a little more
expansion joint thump than a CL-P might.
Overall though, a smooth, compliant & quiet ride with
better than average handling.
Oh, wind noise from the sunroof when the sunshade is open.
A helluva a lot better than my SE-R or SVT Contour.
