Outside Temp Gauge stopped working

The outside temp reading lately seemed to be off so I went in and reset it. After that it didn't seem to be changing much. Today it is stuck on 65 and I know it was in the 80's today. I reset it again but it still sticks on whatever I adjust it to.
Seems kind of sudden for a glitch, my Legend had a built in computer with average mpg, current mpg, all kinds of readouts and never had a glitch.
The biggest pain is having to take it in, a hassle. I have a squeak in the dash too so might as well get both done.
Anyone else's temp gauge malfunction?

Yep... Mine seems to be focked as well... It seems to drop down to lower temps, but doesn't seem to want to adjust to the higher temps... I dunno. I'm gonna keep an eye on it.

Fabvsix 04-25-2003 05:58 PM

Right on the tip of the dash, near the center of the hood!

Fabvsix, No manual?!
Turn the key on but not the engine, press the select and reset buttons for the odometer at the same time for 5-10 seconds, a display of -3 -2 -1 0 +1 + 2 + 3 will toggle with the button push. Let go when the number you want to increase or decrease the temp readout is displayed. Repeat if you need to adjust more than -3 or +3.
It's in the manual. my temp still isn't registering right. I did wash the car today, could that effect it?

The OAT sensor sits in the space between the front bumper and the condensors.

The internal temperature sensor (I guess the IAT) is near your right knee in the front of the dash.

The internal light sensor is up by the window in the center of the dash.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead but - I am having the same issue with the ambient temp sensor. It just stays stuck on 65 while it's in the 80s outside.

123456SPEED - Was this simply a problem with the sensor behind the nose or was it something more serious?

I'm considering just replacing it myself since it's ~$25. Too much of a hassle to go to dealer for just that.

Mine died back in Nov of '03. The temp always read 63-68. The dealer had to replace it. What sucks is that the job takes a couple of hrs. Plus they had to order the parts, which took a week or 2.

Where did you find it? I've been looking with no luck.

If there is a loose connection or something cracked in the sensor you might have gotten water in it.

Wow, this is an old thread. Mine seemed to get back to normal, just seemed to be reacting slowly to the temp changes. It seemed to work fine majority of the time, this was just a few days I was noticing it didn't seem to be right.

JaDia4 04-20-2004 07:45 PM

mine has never worked, just 3 dashes...

I have corroded terminals in the connector for the oat sensor behind the front bumper and am looking for a new terminal plug or a source for the terminal pins in the connector, any one have this info?
