New 400hp acura is coming (sorry no pics)!!!

Hey. I have a very very very very very very close friend who works for honda. Today he went to the honda pilot ride and drive and there an executive from honda told all the sales associates in attendance that acura is coming out w/a 400hp two door car . This is from the mouth of a honda exec. so don't flame me. Thats all that exec. said abt the car and refusd to anwer any questions abt it.

SIDENOTE: The exec. said that the new 03 accord will put the competition back in place and make them look bad. Unfort. no other info was given abt the car exect that the ride and drive for that will prob be 2-3rd week of august (Sept. 9 2002 release date 4 the 03 Accord (Honds target date I believe)). Unfort. they didn't discusss anything else abt the accord or the redesigned acura cl (if it is 2 be made) and tl. Also, my friend told me the pilot is a really nice car and has a nicer ride then the MDX b/c the pilot is more tuned for road comfort. He has ridden and drove an mdx a few times so he knows what he is talking abt. However, I don't think heated seats are available on the pilot
He also siad it would look sick w/ some 19s/dubs lol

Nope 400hp bro, I asked my friend the same thing when he first told me lol I said "no Way!!". And he told me that it is 400hp lol

BTW, the exect. also said was that this new car was to be a segment buster, i.e. similar 2 how the NSX raised a few eyebrows when it was 1st introduced over 1o yrs ago lol

most probably he is refering the next V-8 400 HP NSX... you would need $100,000 for that one

Accord V6 will get the a detuned Type-S engine at 240 HP...
It would look better than than the Atima and it would cost less.. ( "...keeping the competiion at bay")...

It would be an interesting match between Nissan and Honda..

I just read in AutoWeek (I think) that the Pilot rode like a TRUCK compared to the MDX.

Most prob it will be the NSX but when he said it was 400hp and a segment buster, I'm thinking that it will have IMMA that will help power all the wheels and make it 4wd if Honda was 2 go that route

BTW, the exect. did say that the new Honda accord will be a segment buster

But knowing Honda, you'll have to rev it to 15k to get the 400hp.

I say the NSX will be a hybrid this time, for it to be a segment buster.

ABout the Accord. I hope you are right because my sources tell me that the V6 Accord will wear exactly the same engine as it right now.

There might be a chance of a Type R (or Type S) Accord though making at least 250HP.

For the Accord to be a segment buster, it would have to be as big as a Camry but sportier than a Mazda 6. That would make it a segment buster for sure.

From 4 liters, you can make 400HP at around 7000rpm.

Really Shawn? My friend said it had a nice ride and was similar 2 the Odyssey obviously. He said that they had the pilot against a few cars that were ther on hand: the new trailblazer, 02 explorer (v8), and 02 highlander. He said the pilot had the better ride of the 4 trucks (of course he could be bias lol but he is not, he told me what he liked abt the car & didn't like as well). He said he was suprised by the ride of the trailblazer b/c it wasn't that bad.

Unfort. no other info was divulged abt the accord I personally don't think honda will get into an hp war w/ Nissan just yet. I think the v6 (prob carried over) will make 225. I don't know if u guys rmbr this but back in 97 when the G6 accord came out, an Honda exec said that the accord could very easily have had 215hp but it didn't b/c then it would have needed premium fuel then.

Rmbr, honda's civic doesn't even have 130 hp and has stood at least 125 or was it 122hp ?(ex trim--the current ex has 127hp) since 1992 model year, but they still sell in droves lol

If your friend said a 300HP Acura coupe I would be more willing to believe but 400HP??? If 400HP is correct are you sure that the Honda exec wasn't talking about the new NSX that's supposed to be coming out? I highly doubt that Honda/Acura would put 400HP in a remodeled CL due to the fact that they might cancel the model due to sluggish sales.

Hey Nashua Night Hawk...you live 15-minutes from me. Small world. I'm in Bedford.

Anyhow, I don't believe we'll be seeing a 400HP anything from Acura soon. I expect 300HP-320HP from the next NSX, using an IMA system, and probably will cost around $60,000.

Wow..JOE... where did you find out that the Cl model had sluggish sales and they might cancel it??.... and are you talking about the TYPE-S ?

Well everyone knows that they are not pounding out CL-S's/ MDX for the simple fact they are getting the money that they want for the cars.... If they wanted to be like Ford/Chevy/ Chrysler and have hundreds of look alike cars floating all over the US I am sure they would mass produce. But ....(OPINION)... they are building quality in my mind and more and more people are turning their noses up to American made cars.... this was on another post.. You remember the P/T cruiser... people were paying 4K over invoice for those cars.. now Chrysler has them all over the damn place and can't get rid of them...lol...

Points well taken.

I never stated that the Cl will be the car w/a 400hp engine. I constantly asked my friend what model the car was and h said that it was SX something. When he said that I figurethe exect. was prob talking abt the next gen nsx

acurafanatic, ur point is well taken as well. Hoever, that is what was stated and said. Like u, i'm going 2 wait till it comes out and see if my friend is rite or not. 320 sounds good but 400 hp is even sweeter

Who knows maybe u and I are both rite, maybe there will be 2 model types 4 that car i.e. 320 hp and 400hp high performance model (type S or R?).

Smitty, It's been a known fact on this board that CL's whether it's the premium or the Type S models have not been selling well.. I forget who posted it but someone from this forum showed a monthly/yearly sales chart of all the models in Acura's lineup. The CL was second worse in sales next to the Integra... The funny thing is that the Integra was canceled because of the RSX...

Joe... ouch... i was not aware of that... thanks for the information. I guess just from personal experience at the dealerships when I was trying to buy my car it seemed to me that there was a huge demand for the CL's .... but now that I think about it I can see the CL suffering .. i guess... I love the car.. and I guess that will be less Cl'ers I will see around town... good in a way, everyone will sweat my car... and bad, because I want to see more of you fellows supportin the ride..

The Pilot has softer spring rates than the MDX.

Also, I'd bet he was talking about the next NSX.

Small world indeed, Wife and I, just came from Dinner at Maragaritta's in Menchester, NH... We went there to try the place... we had enough dining at Nashua's Maragaritta.

Sorry to break the news to all of you that don't keep up with the car mags.....

400hp ain't that much anymore. There are more and more cars coming out with 400+hp engines. If anyone thinks the next NSX is only going to have 320hp you are nuts. That would be pointless for an "exotic". That would only be making 30hp more than now. Geez, that would only take MILD tuning of the current engine to reach.

I think that a hybrid supercar (dualnote engine in NSX) would make a huge statement--the kind that Honda really shoots for--performance with minimal fuel consumption/emissions.

On a sidenote, I do think it is funny that when they took into account the price difference between the new hybrid Civic and a normal civic it would take something like 14years to make up for the difference in sticker price with fuel savings.

We are lucky in US to have very cheap GAS... you pay $1.6 for 1 Gal of premium GAS... you pay at least $3.2 for 1 Galon of Coke/Pepsi and that just carbonated water and some sugar ...

Worse you pay $8 for 1 galon of Orange Juice.... etc...

In Europe GAS is not cheap.. you pay $4-$5 for a 1 Galon ... That would cut the time to breakeven to just 5 yrs.
Even in Middle East in non-producing-oil countries you pay 2X the price of GAS in US....

I think they meant that the Pilot's steering is heavy like a truck's. There's no mention of ride in the article.

The Pilot uses the Ody engine not the engine in the MDX so it can use regular fuel. The torque/HP curve on the MDX engine is a lot better than the Ody/Pilot so it doesn't suprise me that it would feel slower. IMHO, the Pilot looks bland and has some quirks: gear shift on the steering column, 70's style dash, and no sunroof during the first year of production. A used '01 MDX can be sold for $35K due to the fact that '02's are still going for MSRP with a months long waitling list. A loaded Pilot isn't that much cheaper than a base MDX and still doesn't have all the features. Pilot's will go for MSRP for a while also. Most dealers are still charging close to MSRP for the Ody and it's been out for a couple of years.

It's reasonable for the nex gen NSX to have 400hp, since current one has 290hp. The big three Japanese auto giants are aiming at the market that has been occupied by Ferrari and Porsche. Without 400hp, they can not compete against 360 Modena and 911 Turbo or Vantage.

However, I would say Honda probably would not increase the horsepower of the V6 Accord that much because horsepower is not the main selling point of a mid-sized family sedan. The exterior style of the 03 Accord may be radical and very sporty because it won't affect the ride comfort, however, high horsepower would affect the harshness and fuel economy as well as air emission of the engine. My prediction is that the next V6 Accord would either maintain 200hp or tops at 220hp.

For the next TL, haha don't expect it to have 300+hp. Even 260hp is already way more than enough for this near-luxury sport sedan. Most of its competitions don't have that high horsepower then why should Acura increases it even more?
