Need advise/help RE Manual Transmission Rebuild

Well stopped by the shop today to get my $3000 estimate to fix my transmission. The flywheel had so much play I couldn't believe it. I know nothing about transmissions, sadly, but I'm pretty sure they weren't yanking my chain. The clutch disk had split in half. The tech showed me the gears and all the bearings were shot and noticeably wobbly.

I expected a $2000 bill, $3000 hit me hard but I'm willing to deal with it, I'm a big boy lol.

Here is my confusion. The tech seemed to sway me to go with the OEM flywheel over the lightweight aasco. I read so many pros and cons about lightweight flywheels I guess I'm ok with that. The price they got from Acura on the flywheel was better than from Delray Acura so fine, be it. When I tried to cross reference the part #'s on their quote with the ones from online and from the TSB on the bad 3rd gear synchronizer, most didn't match up. I just called before they closed and he assured me he did the quote using AllData but that when he talked to Acura and got the diagrams, he went by my VIN #. Things like the clutch price seem way too high, but because the part # doesn't correspond with anything I have access too I don't really know what it includes.

I throw this quote out there for anyone to chime in with advice. I want to go over there first thing in the morning and make sure I do this right. I won't ever be running extreme power before its time to do the transmission again, so for now I'm guessing OEM will be fine except for that question of whether I should go with the aasco flywheel.

First of all, your master cylinder does not need replacing and I highly doubt your slave does either.

Number two, you are being charged too much for the clutch and flywheel. Find both of the items here for hundreds less each:

Just for kicks, here's the slave cylinder:

I already have the clutch kit from DCH Acura and it is exactly what they said it would be. My mechanic quoted me $600 for these exact parts. $325 shipped FTW!

Ya I know I'm getting smoked on some stuff that's why I wanted to post this up tonight so I can go in with ammo tomorrow! With regards to the master and slave, the tech brought that up saying they felt "squishy" whatever that means

I've never enjoyed the way the car shifts so I think my mind is telling me more was wrong with it then met the eye when I bought it. But I also don't want to completely be or or even 'd in the process of trying to get this to run correctly.

I noticed that too :/ They kind of get u by the u knows when they have your tranny apart and bring u in back and start showing you all the problems. One of the reasons I rarely use shops.

I'll start jotting down correct part numbers next to theirs with the appropriate prices.

Ya kind of sucks. But there were a lot of internals that needed to be replaced. Bearings all shot, gears not engaging properly, plus the flywheel. I either drove it too long, or the previous owner abused it (more likely)

Shit, i just saw your thread on all the crap you had to have done on your car... wow omg I bet your glad thats over!

Just an FYI, I am taking my car in tomorrow to have the clutch replaced. They have quoted me at $700 with me providing the parts. $1k total clutch replacement on this car having to pull the subframe, etc is about as good as it gets.

Yes that seem's fair considering i saw the work that went into disassembling mine. Of course I had mangled gears too and the flywheel was bad as well as some synchro's... good luck with your clutch!
