My Navi froze

After using my backup DVD Navi disc for a month or so, today it froze up and I got DVD read errors all day. It would stay on the globe for five minutes, then give an error message.

I've been using my backup copy of the Navi disc since I can't seem to find my original disc, I've looked everywhere.

Anyway, when I left for work this morning it was fine. At lunch, froze. I tried everything including rebooting, restarting, disc in and out, cleaning the disc...froze all day. Just minutes ago, I tried it again and it works fine.

The only thing I can think of is temperature. It was much warmer today. Cool this morning, I parked on top of the parking garage in the sun, my temp gauge read 103 degrees, it was at least 80 outside..but to me it felt hot and humid.

Has anyone else experienced Navi problems due to heat?

Yes.. in the summer after some 3 hrs long to trips to and from Montreal the NAV just stop working as it should. It keeps geting the car-pointer off-road...In this case, I shut it off... once home the next day everything is just fine.

my dvd froze

I made a backup and put it in and it would sort of hang and froze. Not sure why. When I went back to the original it worked fine.

I just used a regular dvd burner software to backup the dvd.

I only got the interface options like setup and all of the options to map an address but never saw a map.

as a matter of fact...

I got a blank dvd with NO name or markings on it from someone here at work, so I have no idea what brand it is .

I assume it is a generic..

What brand did you use?

My DVD Navi froze so many times, I had the DVD ROM replaced under warranty. Since then, it has frozen once. I found that it froze most on the blue screen showing the distance to turn (sometimes in 100's of ft.).

Yeah it the fact that it is a backup copy for me.

Freezing is pretty often when left in the heat and sun. Otherwise in the garage at home or parking garage at work, it's fine.

I use Memorex +R's.

Hey Ken:
I never have had a problem with this and I've been in some hot climates etc.....Perhaps you should ask the Park Avenue guys' (Jens) if this is isloated or common......just a thought, as I've experienced no issue with my Navi for the past 62,000 miles of driving.......
Keep us old timers posted ........

Oh, when using the OEM CD, I have no problems at all, no matter how hot it get.

Only when using the backup DVD, which I've had to use "from time to time" because I misplaced my OEM, that's when I get the errors.

My Navi/display froze/malfunctioned the other day, then semi froze today. It was strange. I was able to get to everything except the AC controls today. For a little while. Yesterday it just froze. Didn't respond to any of the buttons. It was very humid both days.
