Angry ...my license plate light !!

So I go out to my car today and I see the entire wiring harness + plug for my license plate light dangling on the ground. The bulb was shattered and I couldn't tell you how long it's been like that (just noticed today..) so I also couldn't say how many puddles and how much water that thing has come in contact with. I do know I drove over a big flooded strip on my way home tonight... I know that thing had to have been submerged at that point.

Is it still good to just replace the bulb (of course when it's 100% dry) or would I be looking at a costly electrical issue? figured I'd post this first before I just do a bulb check. fwiw all other electrical stuff seems to be good.... so far. Anyone know what the best and worst case scenario would be? Any other electrical components that could be affected?

I'm thinking the body shop that worked on my car back in September probably didn't install it correctly when they replaced my rear bumper... but it was so long ago I wouldn't be able to pin it on them.

dont worry about it!
plug in a new bulb(s) and go!

worst case scenario, something shorts.
BEST case scenario, the lights work and nothing happens

really any ones guess at this point! try it out!

Well I'm just thinking the plug was submerged in water and I'm sure it still had some electrical current running through it... right? Or does it cut power if the circuit is not completed?

There is no power at the lamp intil you turn on the running lamps and/or headlamps. Worst case scenario you blow a fuse.
