Mercedes' AMG works on their first DIESEL engine

Diesels have come a long way folks. America has not adopted this technology in cars nearly as much as Europe has.

Now seeing AMG coming out with a Diesel AMG model in the Mercedes Sports Coupe, well...America will listen, say me.

This is about a 5 cylinder, yes 5, 3 liter turbo engine which will make 200 HP!! Yes 200HP from 3 liters and Diesel.

I am not sure about the toruqe rating but that is where Diesel engines kick ass as compared to gas engines. I predict 280 pounds easy.

The reason I would love to see more Diesel engines in America is so that we see us be less dependant on oil imports from OPEC. That is the only reason. And I know that the answer is not really Diesel but fuel celss, hybrids, etc, but I will take that for now. Let's see what S. Arabia thinks 15 years from now about cooperating with us or not. Bring on all these technologies folks.

Diesels still put out a lot of particulate matter that has been traced to cancer (like what isn't), so no one is really willing to adopt them in large scale numbers here.

Last I heard, a uric acid based catalist can nullify the pitfalls, but at very high cost.

i dunno bout the cancer thing, but i can tell u my family's '85 300TD (turbo diesel) wagon is the sh!t!! this tank can haul most anything/everything...the engine by far will outlast the body!!! this engine literally is a small truck engine fit in a wagon's body...this particular engine is a 3.0L in-line 5-cyl...can't tell u much bout HP, but it had a lot of pulling power i love this car so much...i especially love after my parents have used it for a while to "blow out" the engine...u know...slam on the gas, let up, slam again, let up...SMOKE SCREEN everyone behind u!!! bahahahaha i'd love to do it to Shawn, but i know he wouldn't like that too much

Hmmm... Interesting but I doubt that. Not on any grounds other than thinking that if that were true, the European Union would ban diesels. Instead, today 50% of cars sold in Europe are DIESEL cars. I just dont see it being possible.
