Lookin into buying an 02 Type S that needs a transmission...

Lookin into buying an 02 CL-S that needs a transmission, I have an 02 Base, can I swap transmissions from the base to the Type S and have everything function correctly?

better to do the av6 trans swap.. do a search for it quite popular with the tl fellas.. then you'll have two good cars.. instead of butchering one for another..

just curious if the base and type s trans from the same year are interchangeable since i already have the transmission...

I'm not butchering two cars to make one, because the donor CL was sideswiped and totalled... so im using the engine in an 03 TL and plan to use the trans in this other CLS...

Seems like a lot of work to still have a shitty transmission.

Yes you can but the torque converter should follow the motor not the trans.

ok cool, thanks. im not sure if reusing the old TC would be a good idea due to the original trans in the car failing. if i used the base model TC, what problems would I have?

To enhance the durability of the 2g trans use 2 doses of XADO AT EX120. It will reduce friction, rehab the trans back towards nomimnal tolerance on metal parts, and protect the trans from additional wear.

While you have the trans out change the external ATF filter. Check the filters in Pressure Solenoids A/B & C. Likewise, check the screens at the ends of all the other Shift Solenoids & Gear Switches.

The S torque converter will fit both cars but my guess is you may have lock up issues or not. But to be safe I would use the correct one for the motor.

Torque converters are relatively inexpensive so buy a new one don't reuse the old one.

Ok cool. thanks for the tips too.

Im lookin at TC's on rockauto, they dont differentiate between Type S and Base/Premium, but they do have different part numbers on honda/acura online parts catalogs (acuraoemparts.com)

Correction
There are no filters on the Gear Switches so no need to check those.
