Long Trip - Great Gas Mileage

I just travelled 2400 miles going from California to Illinois and averaged 30.03 mpg. That's not too shabby for a CL-S with 180,000 miles.

My best was 31mpg @ 80mph in the summer with AC

Ive average ~26mpg the entire time Ive owned the car. Thats mixed driving and with alot of high rpm pulls. Im interested to see what my mileage will be this summer.

Nice mileage. Best I've gotten was 37mpg. I normally get 30-32mpg on road trips.

So how many miles do you guys get out of a tank? I just got my car and I'm still measuring my first "full" tank. Hoping to get about 350 mixed mostly city?

It used to be a challenge on my old Prelude to get 300 miles out of its tiny tank, didn't hold near as much as the CL-S.

I the summer I see over 400 on a tank with summer high performance tires. In the winter it drops to 300 and sometimes 250 if the snow is really bad with winter tires.

kinda hard to compare different tank sizes when they get quite a bit different gas mileage (most vehicles of all brands seem to average around 300-350 or so)

but in my tl-s i can get about 350, with mosty surburban driving/city, if i wait for the gas light to come on, which is rarely

Ouch. Really? I get 24-26mpg in the winter with winter tires and 26-28mpg in the summer. That includes plenty of high revving and spirited driving.

Average in the summer is 400 miles. In the winter it falls to between 250 and 300 depending on how much snow there is on the road and how much tire spinning is going on, etc.

Wow, stop and go driving hurts. I also usually shift 1-3-5-6 instead of rowing through all the gears. Saves on clutch wear and works just fine. Working at home means I don't have to drive to work but I still manage to put on over 15k miles a year.

I like the 1, 3, 5, 6 idea. These cars do have plenty of torque, so no need to row through all gears. Although it would probably weird me out at first, being so used to shifting through each gear.

Oh, and I wasn't trying to compare my Prelude to the CL-S, just that I usually have a benchmark that I shoot for each tank. Lets me know if I am driving extra-spirited or extra-grandma lol.

The 1-3-5-6 is natural for me now. As you said, plenty of torque even when shifting to the next gear at about 2-3k RPMs.

I also got about 37mpg. i got 36.7mpg going from knoxville to clear water Flordia this summer. i think it was good gas, new plugs, clean filter, headers, high flow cat, new trans, alignment and tires. and not running the AC.
i want to try to get 40 so my friend in his CRX will stop being a sore loser and saying so what i lost i get 40mpg

Last time I got my tank filled, we had ~17 degree weather, so of course that killed my gas mileage quite a bit. I think I got about ~250 on about 13-14 gallons

noob question: How are people cataloging their gas mileage, like you see around here? I mean get those line graphs...?

Click "Garage" at the top of this page. If you added your car to it, click "Fill Up Vehicle" on the right side of the page. You can enter everything in there.

x2, and the two of us seem to be the main ones to actually do the fillups on our cars, and track it

Lol, I usually keep all my gas receipts in the car till the end of the month, then bring them in the house, upload it, then staple them together, put them in an envelope and put it with the rest of my receipts. Ive filled up a 5" binder with receipts.

too many members without at least a geaneral location on their stats ,

a state or a providence (for the mooses ) would at least be nice so people know at least a general location

I would think intake, exhaust, headers, etc. would all help gas mileage, as they help the engine breathe more efficiently. Granted you would have to drive it the same way modded as you would stock to get the gains, which would be hard (at least in the beginning). But once your lead foot calmed down I could definitely see you getting gains.

It should in theory. You're making more power with the same amount of gas so it takes less gas to get you to say 60mph then before. Problem is that most people are more throttle happy when they add mods like that because they like to play around with the extra power so they don't see gains and more likely see a drop in mileage.

Mine drops in the winter also, but I go from ~ 415 miles per tank (summer) to ~ 350-370 per tank (winter). If we have a big snow storm and I do alot of low speed driving it can drop to 300 miles in a tank.

The winter gasoline mix also seems to hurt mpg a bit, extra idling for warm-up, and colder air = denser air, so you use more gasoline because there is more oxygen in the same amount of air. Thats mostly the reason your car feels stronger in the cold weather. (and the car can run more timing).

you seem to have really intermittent fillups, like once a month or sometimes every 2 months , unless of course you don't drive much, IDK, so that is kinda why i did not include you , but if that is how often you truely fillup, then there are 3 of us that do it

oh thats cause sometimes I dont do full tanks. Cause you can only measure MPGs on a full tank. Partial tank yields better mileage but we cant really track it.
