Length of ownership.

Just curious how long some of you have owned your CL's? I'm about 3 years in but have been wanting one for much longer. 3 years later I'm very happy with the purchase. Lots of nice new rides out at the moment, do any of you plan on switching?

I'm on my second CL6. First one I bought in 2007. I've been driving a CL6 for the last ten years! I'm looking to sell as I just don't drive it very much anymore.

I don't have a CL, but I planned to have my TL for 10 years. 7 years in and loving no car payment! Will keep longer than I originally planned for.

Perhaps you should post pics and an asking price on the forums!

Not having a payment is awesome and one of the reasons why I have a CL-S. Sold my Benz e coupe that I never drove and had almost a 1k a month payment on.. feels awesome to not have such a burden on a depreciating asset!

He already has had it listed in the black market since 20 Sept:
https://acurazine.com/forums/member-...canada-962692/

I bought my CLS-6 in Aug 02 with 60+ miles on the odometer. S/C'ed it in '05 at 45K, rebuilt the blower in '15 (with 105K on it) at 150k. Plan on keeping it until the wheels fall off or until it gets 'jacked' by some miscreant. In my area they are a 'rare' occurrence and a huge target for theft.

Purchased mine in 2007, so a bit over 10 years. Still love the car.

I only enjoyed my old CLS6 for just under a year & had to send it off to greater pastures since it needed way too much work that I wasn't willing to put up with.

With that said, if it were in better overall condition with less mileage I would still be tearing the tires off of it today. Man that thing was fun..

I bought my 2002 TL new off the lot in June 2001. It's good to see there are a few original owners still here.

Bought my '01 CL back in December 2005, discovering Acurazine soon after. I finally upgraded earlier this year after 11 years of Acura ownership; it was tough to sell it after all those years. I'm hoping to keep my new ride at least as long as I had the CL.

Bought mine around Oct 2000. Still going strong Oct 2017.

Probably won't replace it until there is a $2K+ maintenance issue. Don't expect that for about 5 more yrs.

Picked up a 01' CL-S, with 138k miles. Very clean, and appeared to have been owned by an older fellow. I used to own a 08 WRX with a lot of mods, and I wanted something that was Naturally Aspirated, decent solid luxury feel, and Japanese reliability. I didn't know about the transmission issue until after I purchased the vehicle, but it was too good of a deal to pass up given the mileage and condition of the vehicle.

For my brief ownership of 4-5 months a decent amount of work had to be put in, that i'd imagine is in the normal life cycle of the car.
  • All 5 mounts around the engine
  • Rear struts
  • Cleaning the heck out of the EGR system, Top cover of the intake mani, TB
  • Replaced the IACV twice, aftermarket caused idle issues
Compared to newer cars these days. A lot more R&D just goes into making a vehicle's body work look good, not much goes into performance engineering.

Honda is a boring company now, until recently with the Type-R just countless amounts of slushbox econo-crossovers. Lexus has started trying really hard with their F sport line, and expanding upon the F series v8 from the IS-F to the RC-F and GS-F. German cars are 5 year cars that should only be bought new, owned under a lease, and then run away from very quickly.

The CL-S is a pretty classic car, while the body hasn't aged as well as say an IS300 - it's still a very peppy car with a comfortable chasis. I plan to keep mine until a 2011-2013 Lexus IS-F can be had for under 20,000.

you pretty much summed up my reasons for wanting this car as well. While I'm a big German luxury car fan, the reality is that reliability can sometimes be more of a concern and repairs can also be very costly. This car is best of both worlds.

8 years with my CL6! Awesome not having a car note. But because of needing a little more room for the kids, I'm about to purchase a '13 TL SH-AWD 6MT. I hope the TL is as good to me as the CL6 has been. I'm not trading it in, so debating when or if I will sell the CL6.

Wanted a CLS6 since 2008 and finally in 2013 I bought one right at 100,000 miles. Car was fantastic and loved every minute of it but sadly had some work done on the suspension and they didnt secure the lower control arm to my suspension.. hit a bump and everything separated driving at 50mph.. bent the rim, rippled the fender, snapped by brake lines and CV .. ultimately insurance totaled it out in 2015 ish and have since moved on..but have had my eyes on a few and thinking about going back

Loved this car

I have owned an Acura CL since June 1998 a 1997 2.2 CL. My first 2nd Gen was a 2001 Type S I bought July 2001 original owner totaled in Feb 2008. My 2nd Type S 2003 and current I purchased March 2008 its no longer my daily driver but I still enjoy driving it I think I drove 1-2k miles last year. My daily driver is a 2007 TL-S but I still enjoy driving the CL-S more.

My 2003 cl type s was purchased as new in 2004. I am the only owner. The windows have been tinted and that is only mod. I am 124,500 miles. Water pump and timing belt was replaced at 100,000 miles. The clutch was replaced at 105,000 miles. The fuel pump relay which was an easy fix was replaced. Oil changes, air filter, manual transmission fluid, brake fluid flush, batteries, and on my fourth set of tires now.

Been in and out of CLs since early 2011 but my current daily is an '03 CLS-6 and is by far my favorite of the bunch of Acuras.

I sometimes regret not having bought a 6 speed. The automatics are still fun to drive (or at least i try to make the best of it). I did a few things to the suspension so it handles much better.

I went an entire year without a car working full-time and going to school full-time. When I got my tax return in March 2014, I was looking on Craig's List for an RSX (glad I didn't get one, a bit too small for my lifestyle) and happened upon my '01 3.2 CL-S. The owner had just posted it! I bought it for $2900 cash and haven't regretted it! I've put serious miles on it with my road trips from FL to NJ, GA, and central FL, it hasn't needed any crazy repairs. Honestly, healthiest relationship I've ever been in! (lol/cry) I plan to ride it till the wheels fall off!

I had mine for 9 years.. saw me through high school and college.. lots of memories

One thing I miss is the power forward feature when you pull forward the seatback to let people in the back. One thing I don't miss is the scraping.

Yes, SS 1LE. It was that or the M2. I was originally planning to get a BRZ but I got too used to the torque of the J-series.

It really is I thought of selling it a few times but I just cant I am going to keep it until it wont drive anymore. Recently iv had pretty much all front end parts replaced, new suspension also thinking about coil overs soon it has new clutch rear main seal timing belt and water pump were the only major repairs I have done it does have headers and CAI polished the intake manifold other than that I just keep it clean as I can. but if you keep up on maintaining the car it will last for a long time
