JTC Customs short shifter
Just finished installing a JTC short shifter kit for my CL. I'm really enjoying it so far, but I get the feeling that it is a shared kit, no surprise or problem with that only the bolt that connects the lever to the cable linkage is too small in diameter and substantially too wide. There is alot of play, probably close to 1/4". The original little plastic bit made the hole too small for the bolt, and the width would still be way too wide.
Any idea's on how to fix this up a bit? Considering getting some rubber for each side and drilling a hole thorugh it to get the linkage centered. But I still have to figure out something to make it so the linkage hole is closer to the bolt. Some kind of perfetly sized sheath seems unlikely. Maybe just learn to live with it? Gives it a pretty lame sloppy feel though. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...060fef37fc.jpg Sorry for the shitty picture. I have a video I could upload if anyone needs it but I think the picture should make sense. |
If I had to approach this problem after spending $240ish?? for the kit, I would first find a bolt that would fit the inside diameter of the car cable linkage opening as snug as possible, making sure it is at least as long as the original smaller diameter bolt that came with the kit.
Then I would remove the shifter and drill out the holes on each side of the shifter, as straight as possible, to accommodate the new bolt diameter; thus, tightening up the slack. Once the new bolt is able to pass through the newly drilled shifter brackets and cable linkage opening one could use some type of rubber tubing, that fits the diameter of the new bolt to center or offset the cable linkage to one side or the other as you see fit.:dunno: |
