How to tell if Acura CL is a type S or not

I have an Acura CL 2003 and I'd like to figure out if it is a type S, it has the sticker, but that could have been purchased, and it doesn't have original rims, maybe there's a way to know with the VIN? Thanks in advance!

There is, but you could pop the hood and see if the plastic piece on the front valve cover has red on it, or not.

The gauges....speedometer, fuel and tach have a white face. The base model has black face gauges.

The engine covers arent original and the large cover doesn't fit over the map sensor correctly, which concerned me.

Mine has a black face, thank you for the help (: and does anyone know how to tell explicitly by the VIN number? I need a lot of proof because a year ago I was sold this car under the false pretense that it was a type S. But now I know that it isn't, and according to Edmund's it's worth only half of what I paid. And yes Edmund's was used to get the price in the first place by the seller when I purchased it.

Sounds like you got screwed. Take it as a learning experience to always do proper research before purchasing, not after when it is pointless.

What do you mean by sticker, the cars come with Badges not stickers.

That's a big story I suppose I won't get into, but anyways, thank you for your help.

VIN

8th digit in the VIN should be 8 or 9.

8 = Type S.

9 = Type S with Navigation.

10th digit in VIN should be a 3, for the year 2003.

Type-S had perforated leather sport seats. Someone went through a lot of trouble if they switched all that out.

This is not correct. I just checked my two CL-S and their VINs are:

19UYA41663Axxxxxx
19UYA41623Axxxxxx

^ LOL... WHAT THE? My bad, I got the tl mixed up with CL.

So from from your info and mines CLS must be...

8th digit should be 6 or 7.

6 = Type S.

7 = Type S with Navigation.

10th digit is year model... 3 in this case.

The gauges are going to be the easiest way to see because they aren't very easy to swap in and out. Badges, engine covers are not as reliable.

Does the regular CL have an IMRC actuator?

If we're down with reviving this 4 year-old thread, my CL-S has white gauges AND the gear display in the RPM gauge (like in the photo with the black gauges). Are there AT versions without Sport-Shift? That's the only reason I can come up with as to why that would either be there or not.

Every AT car has the gear display for sport shift. Any cluster without it is from a MT car.

The 8th digit in my '03 CL-S 6 speed is a 6. No NAV.

Yes, that is correct for CLS with no Nav. 6 if you have no nav and 7 if you have the nav. The sport shift indicator on the cluster would only be on AT cars as stated.
