No problem with the rear defroster lines. The only problem is the tint does not adhere well to the black sunscreen at the top of the rear window. If you look closely you see lots of air bubbles there. Drives some people nuts... its' not a big deal for me. Some people elect to have the tinter just tint up to that point and not over it.
As far as type of tint goes, the better quality tints are metallic-dye films. The metallic tints reflect sun and keeps the heat out better than dye only films. The dye only films also tend to turn from charcoal to purple after a few years. Good quality tints will probably run you about $150-200 depending upon your area.

Well, I’m not an expert on the different “brands” of tint, but I know that if it is properly installed there should be no problem with the rear defroster.
I had tint on my 91 Legend Coupe for 8-years and there was no fading of the tint or “bubbling” on the rear or any other windows.
I had it on my previous car before that for about 6 years.
I know the opinions differ here, but many Websites say metallic tints are bad news for rear sensing radar detectors & NAV antennas.
Check out the V1 site.
I know there are people here who say otherwise, but I didn’t want to take a chance using metallic.
The tint I had on my other cars was NON-metallic and I had no PURPLE effect even after 8-years.

This was my first tint job 2 years ago on the 'Stang. Had a local shop do 28% Llumar metallic film (lifetime warranty on labor and against film turning purple, etc.). Mustangs don't have the sunscreen dots, so no problem there for me. Tint guy did a great job, so rear defroster lines not a problem either - looks like an OEM job (privacy glass on a SUV or something). V1 works fine. I don't have nav, so no personal experience there.
Most states, legal = 35%. "limo" tint is usually 10% light transmission, sometimes 5% which is the lowest made I guess. My 28% is technically illegal - but looks fine, works great, have gotten zero hassles from anyone on it.

I used to be disgusted, but now I try to be amused.....

I got Formula One Millenium 35% metalic tint. I am very happy with. No problem with rear defroster. I also have the Nav and there is no difference between my reception before and after the tint. I aggree with ShawnS that the metalic tint may cause a problem with some radar detectors.
