I do not know of any other brand... I thought PPG makes all Auto-glass, they just label them with different logos for Auto Makers..

Doesnt say - All the receipt says is Replacement Windshield (Solar Controlled) Urethane, Daa, Primer) - But since the company is pretty large I would think they follow all Standard Safety Procedures and take some quality measures

I gave the guy a shiny $5 tim (dont spen it all in one place!)
Glass = $194
Labor = $50
Urethane, primer $15
Tax = 12.30

$217

good stuff

all auto glass is governed....

2 pieces of glass pressed together with some kind of plastic material inbetween them... so if you hit something you are not killed by impelling shards of glass to the face.. "spider web affect

Now door glass is a different story... the glass on your windshield is different then the glass on your doors... the door glass if broken will break into small pixels (cubes), it can still cut you but it is nothing like getting cut from a kitchen drinking glass..

I found with Navi 400.00
Without Navi 167.00

I have the Navi but went for the cheaper windshield. The only difference is the onstar in the rear view mirror. basically the black out area at the top was smaller on the non Nav whish shows a few small components

since you already did it, too late, but you should have called your insurance company.

state farm has a policy on the front/rear glass...they replace them for free!!!

i had my rear glass smashed and they fixed it at my office the very next day...no questions asked. it was about $1100, but i paid $0

or you could have paid your $250 deductible for the $400 Navi winshield.

state farm is the best! i would have been 'up a creek' if i would have had to pay $1100 for my rear glass out of pocket.

Why would I spend more money and have a claim on my insurance for a windshield that is exactly the same?

i guess we're dealing with 2 different scenarios:

state farm does not classify a broken winshield as a claim, therefore, i jumped all over that option.

on the other hand, your insurance does not fully cover this, and files it as a claim.

just my

Insurance companies do not go against you for fixing a broken windshield. THis is part of your comprehensive coverage. I replaced my windshield for free through my insurance company.

that's strange. my state farm agent told me that they have a strict policy on the front and rear glass for safety reasons...that's why it's free...

You have a good price there. I should know because I'm on my FOURTH windshield.

Pilkington is reputed to be the best. Make sure you get that one.

watch out for assclowns that leave glue on the side of your car. they asked me to sign for the car, and i did. then when i got home i walked by the passenger side front fender and noticed glue right about the wheel well. needless to say, i still have the marks on my car one year later. but that price they are offering you sounds pretty good.
