with a vid it be more believable and ppl on a budget would do this like when ppl take out their intake resonator, free, adds power, sounds nice.

I just did it to one muffler. I wanted to lose a less torque as possible and still get the sound. plus people were saying how water could get inside and rust out the muffler so I didnt want to really add to that. yea, it starts around 2k and its still pretty quiet but at least its louder then stock.

I unbolted one muffler with a 14mm wrench and put 2 12mm flat washers on each of the 2 bolt studs. Bolted the muffler back up.
This creates a small space before the exhaust gas passes thru the muffler between the muffler and the pipe. The result is increased sound around 2k and 4k. You do lose a little backpressure/torque cause its essentially a leak in the exhaust system but you can always undo it and it costs like $1 in washers.
The sound is good, dare I say close to G35ish. Im gonna try going 1 washer each bolt soon and see if it changes the sound/increases the torque. I love this mod. Cheap, easy to do and easy to undo. Works on the TL, CL and probably any car with bolted on mufflers.

Questions? Comments? Thanks for looking.

WOW ... Im sorry but purposefully disturbing your cars performance to create the illusion of performance is NOT a mod; its idiotic. But what ever, its your ride. If I see/hear you, ill be sure to quietly fly buy your loud, exhaust leaking, honda civic-wanna be car. ... imagine how loud youre car would be if you took out the air box and filter! Now your talking some serious grrrrr.

Its just a slightly louder tone, doesnt sound raspy and it doesnt look any different than stock.

Im the one that should be saying WOW I have more posts then you, been here longer and im willing to bet I know my car better then your car. You go ahead and do your ricer fly-by, I dont race. I just wanted to add some sound to my exhaust like the people here that remove their mid-muffler. If you dont like it, just say you dont like this mod.
and I already removed the intake resonator, as a matter of fact.
I wonder how you feel about the mid-muffler removal.

For the record I had an exhaust leak the size of 1/4 inch on one side of my exhaust and it sounded like a toned down g35...lol no lies. It doesn't sound like ur avg exhaust leak I'll give it that. I think most ppl would be quite impressed with the sound.

But on the other hand it's not the actual sound of the car which is why I fixed it when I found a place that would do it cheap.

Hurting ur cars performance for some sound is str8 up cheeseball IMHO

okay, i can agree with that. But i didnt mind losing some torque for it. I dont see how this is any different then adding a free flowing exhaust, both ways is freeing up the gases. I just dont want mods locking this thread cause its getting off topic.

stock exhaust people can try this out and let us know. its only gonna cost the price of the washers and you can put it back in 10 minutes.

yea I had completely stock exhaust when this occurred and it changes the sound of the car low end, and yes it does sound fairly clean. SUPRISINGLY actually. However I cannot see this helping power in ANY way as it is disturbing the flow of the exiting gases which when it comes to hydraulics, that HURTS the flow. The more gases there are flowing through the pipe at once the more it'll naturally want to exit the car and the more power you get.

This mod basically ruins the physics of an exhaust. So the way i see it. You either got a nice looking/sounding CL or it's hauls ass.

frankly I would only reccommend people attempting this for experimentation purposes if they are not modded.

With the mods I got, and the stock exhaust from and including the cat, back. The sound has changed durastically at WOT and I would not even think about trying to MAKE my car sound different.

The way i see it, every car is what it is. You don't like it, shoulda bought a different car or b quite LOL.

I would not recommend it at all. If you want to have great sounding exhaust, you have to pay for it, some 45 cent washers aren't going to give you great sounding exhaust. Just buy or custom fab a system, the only thing you are going to do is probably rust out your mufflers quicker.

I agree with the both of you. I know this mod hurts low end torque. Its really for shits and giggles, if you like it then leave it. If not, then put it back.

I also agree that you'll have to pay to get a good sounding exhaust system. By far does this give it a great sound like comptech or magnaflow.

Everyone is wound up about loosing TQ by doing this. I highly doubt you or your butt dyno would be able to tell a diff just from that small of a leak that far back in the exhuast. Really doubt it.

Still lame though!

I drove around Friday with no mufflers. It wasnt as loud as I expected just cruising, but once I gave it 50% or more throttle it was deafening.

Vinyl overlay. I ordered a custom after I did my own center caps. They fit pretty well. You can order them in different colors to match interior or exterior. Chris wanted a silver-ish looking one.

I made a thread about it here:

yea, the washers are really only for completely stock systems.
infact, some people already dont like the sound of the resonator removal so im sure the washers made it worse. Take the washers off and put the mufflers back. actually, let me know how you like just the resonator removal.

i highly didnt think he did that. as long as you bolted the mufflers up snug, then your good on that part.

That fart can sound is what the resonator removal sounds like at cold starts.

TL-S sounds great with the resonator removed. CL-S is another story.
I think it has to do with the other resonator near the cat that the TL has but the CL doesnt.

just do the XLR8 cat and see if the sound is good enough.. I hate cutting out the old exhaust if you're skeptical about the results

I heard people get mixed results with the resonator removal. Another route could be replacing the stock mid-muffler with a magnaflow resonator.
