Good morning folks,
I have an SRS light on a car that I just bought this week, and my OBD2 tester says that I had an issue with my passenger side air bag. I was hoping to disconnect the air bag and use a 2 ohm test resistor to mimic the bag and see if the error clears.

I was all ready to do, battery disconnected, glove box removed, and then encountered that there were 4 wires, not 2 going to what must be a dual stage airbag.

Does anybody know whether I need to use a resistor across both sets (2 red and 2 yellow) in order to test this properly? Or should I be going about this another way?

That's where I started in my troubleshooting process. I tried the reset feature several times and it wouldn't turn off the SRS light.

I'm getting two codes with my OBD2 reader:
10-1 seat belt pretensioner (explosive device) deployed
2-5 short circuit to ground - passenger's inflatable air bag module

I've tried using the erase function on my OBD2 reader and it says "erase request has been sent", however the codes return when it scans immediately afterwords.

I've tried disconnecting the passenger's side airbag completely and installing 2 ohm resisters to mimic it, then trying a reset, but it still won't work. The 2-5 code turned into a 2-1 open circuited In Passenger's Inflatable Air Bag Module

The seat belt pretensioner I have no idea how to address either. That whole "explosive device" thing makes me think that some seat belt part blew up on an impact and won't be happy until it's replaced, but I have no way of confirming that. I can't see anything on the seatbelt receiver itself that looks like it's fancy enough to do that either.

The Helms manual states (page 23-68) for '01-02 CL Models with DTC10-1,10-2,10-3,10-4,10-5,10-6,10-7:
Airbags, side airbags and/or seat belt tensioners deployed

The SRS unit must be replaced after any airbags have deployed (see page 23-218).

Search car-part.com for:
Canada;
Air Bag Cntrl Module,
Air Bag (front console, center dash)
You would have to confirm, though, that this part is, in fact, the SRS Module.

Not sure; however, you may be able to find a specialty repair service online you can send your existing unit to and they 'reset' it on the cheap.

I just found a reset/repair service right in Winnipeg! Spend most of tonight tearing the console apart, now or the battle on getting the bugger out of there as it's an octopus of wires...

What a bummer! I wonder if these are parts that can be picked up at the junkyard. I would imagine that air bags themselves are not an option.

So... today I got the SRS module reset and am flying into the seats to try and check the pretensioners, however I can't find any! Does this make sense? How can I get a code for something that's not present?

Attaching a pic. Can someone confirm for me?

Checked the service manual and it looks like the seat belt tensioner is in the seat belt itself; not the buckle.

The seat belt tensioners are located at the bottom of the 'B-pillar'.

You have a big job ahead.

Take the seatbacks off first, look for the bolts between the seat-backs and the rear seat cushions. Pull up toward glass on whole seat-back assembly to remove.
Remove rear seat console, then remove left/right seat cushions. Pull up on front.

Refer to the attachment for seat belt replacement to access the seat belt tensioners.
