Cold air intake worthi it? Also how difficult is it?

I am looking to bypass/junk the airbox in favor of a cold air set up. Is this a difficult mod for a novice? What results can I expect?

Thanks all

Vtec will sound better, that's about it. It's pretty easy to install. Is this your first mod?

It was my first mod and it was very easy. I think it's worth it and I read anywhere from a few to 15 ponies. I thought there was a dyno that saw a 10hp bump but who knows. The sound is great and I felt slightly better throttle response.

This is my first mod. Aside from changing oil and the occasional tire I am a novice. What should I buy? How many steps roughly?

if you're looking for power, then get headers before anything. Are you auto or manual?

I agree with gnuts.......If however you can find a Comptech Icebox CAI that would be the way to.

How much is a 5% HP boost worth to you? Not enough to feel but it does make the engine more aggressive.

Install is not a problem if you are mechanically inclined.

Intake install is straight forward. I'd recommend a cold air as they will provide the best gains. The AEM Intake is a great option. We have it listed on our website for $271.69:

Intake was my first mod. and it made a difference. You could clearly hear vtec kick in! And it liked to rev higher. You could tell it made more power up high.

I know some will argue it's all in ur head. But hey that's what my head thinks lol.

Are you referring to exhaust headers?

My CAI was also my first mod ever (not just with this car) and it was pretty simple. I tend to be overly cautious and strict about making sure everything is set up 100%, so it took me awhile to get it done, but overall it wasn't too difficult.

fwiw my CAI is an Injen. afaik it has the same setup as the AEM V2 where you have to do a coolant bypass and whatnot. If you get an AEM make sure it has a rubber mount so it won't break from engine vibrations. Assuming AEM still makes and sells the ones that don't...

I finally installed mine today. I had to take the bumper off to reseal a head light housing and it seemed like a perfect opportunity. And... the damned thing didn't fit Actually it did fit but the bracket that attaches the pipe to that anti-vibration mount is off by about an inch or 2. It's an Injen 1660B

I am not impressed with any off the shelf intakes for CL. Comptech is a nice design, but tubing is too small and restrictive.

Custom is the way to go on almost everything.

Based on my experience I totally agree. Piping/tubing is pretty much the same across the board. Some filters are better than others... custom gives you the choice. And I have to say again after actually seeing the stock intake... it's a good design. The only upside I see here is the smooth piping vs the convoluted rubber stock parts. You still get that benefit with custom. And for a lot less money.
And I'm still going to be doing extra work fabbing up a bracket to attach to that Injen bracket lol

Mine is an Injen RD1481. According to the Injen website, both part numbers work... why would they have two different parts?

This is how I attached the tubing to the body. No big deal but it shouldn't have been necessary.
