Is this car worth buying?

I'm looking at a 2003 Acura CL Type S 6 speed, body is in good condition. Paint faded on the hood, roof and trunk. I'm not sure if its buffable or itll need a paint job. Interior has a rip in the passenger seat. It has 125k miles, an I got him down to 3k. Says he got a new clutch and new breaks, but you cant trust people on craigslist. I can include some pics if you guys need..

If you can keep it maintained yourself, you won't find anything more fun to drive than a MT CL-S for the money spent.

But the cars are getting older and this one sounds like it had a rough life. So there is going to be maintenance needed sooner rather than later.

Paint on most Hondas over ten years old is usually pretty rough. Some people get lucky, but most end up like mine.

Seats you can buy for under $150 any day of the week. The clutch is (obviously) a job that requires pulling the transmission, draining fluids and checking the condition of everything else that comes out and goes back in during the process. It's likely the rear main seal was replaced at that time, too, so that's a fair bit of insurance.

Ask if the timing belt has been replaced and what all was replaced at that time.

Did it have any codes?

paint doesnt look like clear coat chipping... just dull.. maybe some ultimate compound and a rotary buffer will do the job?

It has 01-02 tail lights which means it was rear ended and replaced with more "available" parts or the owner swapped them in. Most people like the 03 tails better so seems weird to swap them in.

That car's been around the block a few times. It's been driven as intended, which is not good for you.

You can not tell condition of the paint from pics best to see it in person. There could be some hood damage (dimples sticking up on left side) and dents in left quarter panel but not sure from pics.

If it's been rear ended I would walk away. No need to buy a junker to dump money in it bc it comes out to similar price as a good car at fair price but without the headaches.

From the blacked out oem wheels looks like it's been to a use car lot at some point. Meaning not a cream puff.

Paint job will cost you $2k plus.

The price is fair for a good cls. That is not a good cls. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being best, this cls is probably a 6-7.

If this isn't a car that is a must have for you, I would walk away. You may be able to find one in better condition that won't require you to do a lot of work. If it's a car that you would eventually turn into a project then you can always take a chance.

I got my 03 CL-S 6-Speed with 13X,XXX miles with a rebuilt title from a minor front end accident for $2500. He wanted $3000 originally. I guess that might help answer your question.
