Car Randomly Shuts off

Hey I have a 2001 Acura CL Type S, The car can either be in motion or parked idleing and it will randomly shut off, when it shuts off, the green light key is still showing on the dashboard, everytime I would start it back up and it would be fine, One time it didn’t even completely shut off, it shut off for half a sec (Everything on the dashboard just died) and then continued like nothing happened, I just changed the fuel pump and battery less then 6 months ago and alternator is good.

I want to say this is the fix for most of these issues after I had a similar issue and it hasn't came back since. You can take out the part and resolder the connections to see if it helps before buying a new one. I'm still fairly new so not sure how to attach a thread I saw about it but I know there is one with pics.

You mentioned the green key icon...is that something that you have noticed as being changed?

if your answer is yes: It's the security function which is dependent on the key and the ECU coding.

Have you changed the ECU or the Keys recently? keys not crushed or damaged? No weird stuff near the ignition (keychains, wallets etc) that could prevent that part of the system from recognizing the key ID?

So I tested this theory before I went ahead and started changing parts because I saw my key was scratched and damaged, so I started using my spare which I got programmed and it hasn’t randomly shut off since, thanks!

My 2002 TLS did the same thing. Turned out to be the ignition switch was going south.

The short term fix was to remove several keys from my key fob. No more cutting out, so the weight of the keys was causing an internal circuit to open.

Long term i will replace the switch.
