Asap help on CAI for auto 2003 cl base

First off love the site. Ibe always worked on older cars but decided to change it up and found low mileage mint 2003 cl automatic. Not type s. Kid didn't want due to minor issues that was a simple fix with a little handy work and this site. THANKS GUYS. (bad ballast, driver side window not working, etc ) I've already went with new suspension and brakes, ordered body kit, but had placed order for a cold air intake. HERE'S ISSUE!. is there an actual cold air intake for a 2003 automatic cl? I ordered the injen rd1660 intake and they sent an email saying they won't ship because only fits on manual? Why would that effect the intake? Throttle body or some weird fitting of the pipe?? Want to finish up this weekend so fast help would work great. A part number or suggestion for cold air intake. Want to go that route but if not might have to settle with short ram air. I don't wanna do bunch of fab or custom work this late in season

Yes the 6mt is different. The autos have two throttle bodies (one is for VSA).

All those intakes brands make them for autos too. Check out our vendors here - heeltoe or XLR8. They're very helpful.

Awesome thanks! There isn't anything local and I can't seem to find any help online. Place in ordered from will do full refund but they seem to communicate that there isn't a cai for this car. (Maybe trying to push the ram air sale). Is there a link to that vendor or how do I contact them? All I found ya was issues with the vsa so would have to do a custom job

Hopefully this works, this is the Injen, but there are other brands too. Input your car year, make etc., Then make sure you "clear filter XLR8 performance", then it'll show all brands/products that fit your car.

Thanks. So ordered the cai intake that came up. Wanted to go aem or injen so works great. Only issue I see is its giving me a part number rd1481p which they say fits a 2003 auto cl 3.2 base, but every other site I've checked with says no, it doesnt. Hopefully works and gonna stick with it, acurazine has wirked well with all my other needs. Thanks again

All autos , base or type S will be the same. 6 speeds will be slightly different.

Enjoy, I love spending other people's money!

.... Nah dude. The Type S models will have VSA while the base models won't have the VSA throttle body. The CL-S6 manual will be similar to the base model (no VSA), except for a larger diameter pipe to fit the Type S throttle body. So there's three types of CAI for our cars:

1) CL-P
2) CL-S Auto
3) CL-S6 Manual

The AEM V2 CAI is the best intake for the base model CL-P. They didn't make it for the Type S cars.

You can put the manual one on the auto though. I did. I deleted the 2nd throttle body and said goodbye to vsa. Been years now. Could have also just cut shorter and kept vsa. But having the premium the opening is smaller. For real gains I would try and get the type s manifold AND intake. Sure it would work, any one say different?

I was kinda hearing the same, delete and use type s intake. Sounds like ppl ran into issues with the manifold though. I haven't looked too much into it but again I'd assume that's more of a manual/auto transmission issue rather than base/premium

If you were to go that route, you'll probably need a reducer coupling to your throttle body. Cheapest route from where you're at (already purchased type s CIA)

Ya should clarify. I was able to get full refund on the type S cai, and ordered the cai from xlr8 injen part # listed above . In regards to engine all I planned on doing before putting away this fall was intake, manifold, and if time and funds open up exhaust. Doing suspension this weekend, parts already ordered and on hand. Body kit ordered but will wait to paint over winter. Is there much else off top of head engine wise to do to the base that'd be an easy start and not cost an arm and leg besides manifold and intake? Not seeing a whole lot out there

Thanks Karan, I don't see a lot of base model info here, so I assumed wrongly they were the same. Thanks for some knowledge!

exactly, but only thing is I kept the second throttle body and cut the pipe and kept the pen hose connector to the throttle body so I could plug my pcv hose, and breather

So far did tein coilovers, the injen cold air intake, shopping around for manifold, and I think it's like auto dynamics evo 2 body kit. I went all cheap yes ha. I live in south Dakota so I have pot holes bigger than most places speed bumps. If I mess it up no problem. Hence why I wanna get on before snow and then can go from there. I have a daily driver and a 74 Buick I love and a 76 ford that's gonna be great, but I picked up this car on a steal and honestly digging it. The kit was like 600 shipped and I can paint myself so not too concerned. There is a picture I wanna try to upload of a 2003 cl I'm shooting for. I like the lines, like have a feeling could be sleak and fun project.

Haven't gotten the body kit yet but I like the pictures. Nothing drastic but smoother lines

Cheapest cai....no annoying humming like an sri

40 bucks total
4" blinglights universal intake.....90 degree 4" elbow....2 clamps and dome....filters in the same place as an injen or aem.....im 6 speed but this would work on any....the universal intakes come in 3.5 in for base model cars or even 3 inch.

Would help if you could see it better but its all black tubing and a black filter but its right behind and below my drivers headlight and sheilded by the splash sheilds and bottom engine sheild so Im yet to have a water issue

right exactly.....cleaning out the garage so a tree doesn't fall on the car then it won't matter what the engine bay looks like.
