AfterMkt spark plugs and wires... Worth the investment?

What are your experiences or opinions on this? The wire and plug people claim it makes the engine run cleaner, with more HP and better mileage. Is this true?

Should I look into dropping the cash on after market high quality wires and plugs? How about distributer cap and coil from MSD?

Will they make a noticable difference in performance and mileage? What brands are best?

I personally would not recommend it. I believe that the factory wires are better for the vehicle. Everytime I have messed with the wires for better performance there is either radio interference or something else that goes wrong. The manufacturers use wire that suppresses noise and aftermarket seem to have more regard for performance than anything else. I for one was never happy with aftermarket wires. Only for motorcycles. JMO.

Does your car have direct ignition? I'm not sure which years Acura put the direct ignition on the CL's. If it does, then you won't be able to replace the spark plugs wires or coil, because their any in the traditional sense of a normal ignition.

In a direct ignition setup each plug has its on little coil.

Not sure where that distributor cap would fit as we have a DIS system with coils on each plug negating the use of caps and ignitions wires.

You really can't get much more efficient fire than what we already have.

He has a 2.2 CL -- I personally don't know about the coil configuration of the 4 banger.

If it does have DOES NOT have the one HV coil per plug, then MSD does make a lot of cool stuff in the multi-spark department.

I sure don't know about a 2.2 CL

Get the wires, dist. cap, and rotor. Also get the 200mpg tablet for the fuel tank.

Stay away from aftermarket wires! We get many riced out rides in with idle/perf complaints and aftermarket wires are one of the leading causes. Put Oem back on and presto- runs good!

Great advice, glad I asked.

WayneG, do you have any experience with a short ram making the check engine light come on?

I read that in another post and wondered if it was really the cause.

NO, I haven't seen any instances of the intakes causing a CEL. Maybe if something else was disturbed during the install...
