I got the Engine torque damper on ebay for 60 shipped. it is an NRG piece. I got the Civic Kit. All the dampers are the same. just make sure the length(172mm-186mm I think) is correct for your vehicle ofr just get the NRG civic kit on ebay. we installed it where the 6-speed OEM forward damper was located. what a piece of shit that was. I can compress it quickly with my hands. Zero fabrication was required and it bolted right in place with a few new bolts. To save some confusion for those who dont know, the Auto does not have a OEM front or rear engine damper so you will have to use the power steering pump to strut tower setup 02av6 has and strut tower brace modification is necessary if you are using the OEM strut tower brace. the NRG kit comes with rubber and polly urithane bushings for the damper. Make sure you fully disassemble the damper and tighten all internal parts as well as external parts before install. We assumed all inside was tight but it came loose from the internal shaft the first week it was on the car. I can burn the tires down now with no wheel hop. car feels so much mor planted and I can easily put the power down. I know;



I have a new digital cam on the way in the mail. when I get it I will post pics of the install and all parts used.

BTW, sucks that I'm an auto. I would really like to try this out, but not ambitious enough to start modifying the STB.

If you have the comptech bar it may work on the power steering pump. You will have to get it and try but if you have a 6mt the front OEM damper location is the only way to go. You will understand once I post pics. The additional parts cost $10 maybe.

The link above is the correct part on ebay and I got the polished damper. It is not chrome just polished aluminum. Obviously you will not be using the brakets with the kit. Only the damper. This thing rocks! Wow!

Hopefully you can do this soon I have had the NRG for at least two months in my trunk now. I still have the stock stb bar and was planing to get a Neuspeed but I seriously do not know how to come about putting the damper on!!!!

Is NRG a good good and trusted brand? never heard of them. Are there any benefits with going with the more expensive torque dampeners like spoonsports or weapon-r?

seems like an easy and needed mod. surprised I havent heard this done on our cars yet. I have always had a hard time properly launching the 6.

i'm not sure if other products has the same design like NRG. if so, yes they will fit.

i think these is better than the OEM shocks. check it out yourself you'll see how weak are those things...

yeah, s/c will be on the way, so get this done first before s/c. not unless you have a lift it's easy to put it...

Well those pics are similar but show fabrication and different install. Mine uses OEM parts and looks quite different. the CLS 6mt damper brackets look nothing like those pics. I am pretty sure that bracket in the pic was fabricated. If you have a 6mt just relax and wait for the pics. They will be up by Jan 3rd if not tonight. What I have done is much easier. That engine bay looks very differnet from the 6mt CL. The NRG piece is very strong and built like all the others there is no need to spend $120 for the same thing. o2av6 was puting down 337 wheel hp with the same piece so I dont think there is a question of reliability. Wait for the pics. I am going to see if my new cam came in now. Jim

I just tracked it and my cam arrives on Jan. 2nd. Seriously, those pics are not what you want to do! The cat is not out of the bag. If you do not have a manual trans CL you may consider the install above but it is extensively fabricated. What I have done is rock solid and uses some of the OEM damper parts as well as a new bolt and nuts. It is Much, Much easier and any idiot with a set of hand tools from Target could do it. Nice try though SIRSIG!

Well I guess its my time to chime in since Siggy posted some of my pics

The bracket itself is some random aluminum piece with two holes that my mechanic at C&C Auto that did my swap used to put the dampner in.

If you don't want to take out your supercharger just put one in the back.

I have thought about getting the OEM bracket since I like OEM stuff but time and other stuff have got in the way of that most of the time.

I did manage to break the dampner at the threads where the "shock" unit meets up with the tie rod end and NRG replaced it with a new one for me.

After further review, the pics above are similar in application. However, the entire assembly for the OEM damper is missing and all is fabricated. What is missing is the upper and lower OEM Damper brackets. My install is similar in theory but so simple using the OEM parts, none of which are shown in the above photos. If you have an Automatic CL and feel like doing some fabrication I think the above photos are the only way to go. If you have a 2003 6mt CLS wait for my photos.

Green monsters photo is dirty as hell but is correct. Was that CLS in salt water for a year or what? The oem Upper and lower brackets shown in his pic are used.

looking at the above pics I can tell why those OEM dampers cost so much they're huge! Well it looks that way from the pic at least. Upon further inspection the dust covers just make them look that way.

parts 33 2 of them,16,18 2of them,19,20 were all reused. only thing new is the bolt that replaced the ball joint threaded into the top of the new NRG damper, the bolt holding the bottom of the damer to the old OEM bottom bracket, and a two nuts. I will think the bolt was a 10 or 12 MM 3 1/4 inch 1.5 thread. Im not sure but I will dissasemble it again and post more pics. Goodbye wheel hop! Jim

From looking at the scematic above, the front and rear dampers are identical, both part 17. So I see no reason why both could not be repalced with the NRG piece like I did in the front.

Outstanding mod and thanks for sharing your work! I'll be jumping on this shortly as I ordered two kits from that ebay site, one for the rear as well.
