2001 Acura CL Transmission Rebuild or Swap
Hello all,
I'm new here but I have an '01 CL Type S with a slipping 2nd and 3rd gear. The car will run fine when it's been sitting overnight but once everything really starts to warm up the transmission starts to shift really rough. I love my car, it's beautiful but it drives super rough and I'm kind of anxious knowing that the transmission could go anytime. It's a 5 speed auto so I know these are notoriously known to go out. I've been looking around at possible rebuilds or just getting the whole thing swapped out. A bit pricey obviously but I was wondering if anyone knew
1. The best place to buy a new transmission for it
2. Are there any other transmissions from Acuras or Hondas that I could put into this car to save some money (possibly interchangeable)
3. Would you recommend a rebuild or a swap? (~155,000 miles on car)
And 4. That's all.
Would greatly appreciate the help, thanks all. Looking forward to reading the feedback.

Best bet is a BAYA trans from an 06-07 accord with a V6(non-hybrid), commonly referred to as AV6, which is a pretty straightforward swap. Do a search for "AV6" both here and on the 2G TL forum and you'll find all sorts of info.
Don't waste your money rebuilding. It's expensive and considering our transmissions have a flawed design there's no guaranty it will last.
A good place to source them is here : Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market

I second the motion, go BAYA or bust.

Hey, Iggy I have a 03 CL type S and did some digging regarding the AV6 swap and found this tl guide . Would it basically be the same instructions swapping out my transmission even though its not the 2nd gen Tl like in the guide? I couldn't find a clear answer anywhere for this.
