Not gonna part car out yet, thought about it for half a day.

New autocross videos on my YouTube channel, including Focus ST. Latest video has new tires on front.

Ordered new VIS fiberglass trunk and hood, just waiting on freight shipping. If you are wondering why I say fiberglass and not carbon fiber, it is because all trunks/hoods for CL are fiberglass with just 1 layer of carbon fiber on top to trick ppl.

Will be at King Motorsports on Sunday for their dyno day if anyone wants to go.

Have gotten a lot of comments about how ugly my hood is.

Seems like my oem replacement clutch is already starting to slip after only a few thousand miles. It just cant handle 245 ft lbs of torque and my driving.

Untrue, the underside of their parts is the only fiberglass part which is used in an effort to give a cleaner look instead of the raw, uncleared, and unlike the surface- not hand laid carbon fiber. The skeleton of the parts themselves are made of carbon fiber. You can get double sided carbon fiber parts with no fiberglass for an additional fee. Right from their website

I disagree. I have a VIS trunk at my house now. The corner was smashed in shipping. I can tell by looking at it that it is fiberglass with layer of carbon fiber on top. If you do research online other people will say same thing. Take your hood or trunk and cut it up and see for yourself like I did.

Will you opt for the unsprung LW flywheel when you get the XLR8 clutch or just the upgraded PP and clutch disc?

Brian, I did a part out of my S2000 earlier this year, many rare ARC, Spoon, etc parts sold. Sold the car, and miss it every day but it came down to me moving away not needing multiple cars that sit in the garage and used for a few months out of the year (Illinois life).

After you mention King Dyno Day I realize you are from the midwest, wish I would of know that. (if you see a red S2000 Mugen HT gold Advans stop by and say hi).

If you are parting out, I have a list of things I would love, lol. You inbox is filled.

Figured might as well since the kit comes with Aasco flywheel. Just need to decide which kit to get.

I know how you feel. The 'Daily' kit claims a 'Torque capacity will be roughly 340 ft/lbs.' versus the 'Street /Strip' kit with 425 ft/lbs. If the Street/Strip kit can give you the smooth OEM feel at the clutch pedal without any chatter as the kevlar grabs the flywheel, that may be your best choice. To say the least, that 425ft/lbs and Kevlar disc should prove resilient enough in the second gear rev range you do most of your autocross maneuvers in. I believe 6spd-Gerco is the only one, maybe one other, that has any experience with the' Daily' XLR8 kit on the 3G TL side. Whatever choice you make, your auto cross car would truly test the validity of the claims of these kits being an upgrade in PP clamp load and disc friction material.

Just got home from the indy car event at Road America.

In the Pirelli World Challenge race, the 2 Rwd Acura placed 1st and 2nd place. That was fun to watch. Perfect race to attend, since it is first Acura win since forever.

Now to sleep and drive back up again tomorrow to King Motorsports.

Had CL at King Motorsports Dyno Day/Car Show yesterday. The ricer crowd had no interest in my CL. Whole day was just me thinking how I would have enjoyed being at the track or autocross instead.

Peoples choice Award went to a silly Civic Si.

Looked through pics ppl took, and there are no pics of my car. CL has to be worst Honda/Acura to take to a car show.

Did not get to put car on Dyno because I would have had to remove front bumper to hook car up.

Good news is VIS trunk arrived and should be installed soon.

Congrats. I have never been able to get 3rd place, even when they have an Actual Acura category and about 5 Acuras total.

Was interesting listening to people comment on car without knowing I was owner.

Most comments were about why mod a CL like I did and ppl saying they don't like this body style.

Oh well if the CL was popular that would turn me off from it. Good thing I don't build to impress others or it would be really disappointing.

i like what youve done so far. its kind of a strange chassis to most anyway. a big, heavy 2 door coupe with a manual when almost all hondas are small compacts, light weight and manual. ive always been an accord fan, so it was natural for me to like cl's.

If you want to impress people that go to car shows, mod a 3rd Gen TL instead. Ricers love that body style. CL's get no love. I only went to support the shop, otherwise I wouldn't be seen dead at these type of events.

You could literally spend 100 grand modding a CL and you will still lose awards to Civics and 3rd Gen TLS with a few grand in mods.

Missed this post or I would have said hello. Don't recall any CL owners saying hello to me. Did you see my car there?

I agree, and it's sad. There used to be more originality in the car show hobby, but now that everyone can see what everyone else is doing all across the world by getting on Instagram and looking at pictures, it's fairly easy to imitate what you think is a good look. This is compounded by the ease of advertisement that social media provides. Now there are tons of companies willing to sell you parts to get "that" look.

I will say that cars are a lot cleaner at car shows than they used to be. I've also not seen obvious use of Bondo in quite a long time. That said, I usually avoid import car shows like the plague unless it's Wekfest.

I do get asked sometimes at autocross whether my car is a show car, which I find offensive.

When take my CL to car shows ppl seem shocked to find out I autocross and track the car. People think I am just one of those posers who builds a street car to look like a race car. Not sure I like that new trend.

Whoever decided to put Crayola on the side of the S2000 should have to give the car up.

I love the CL......I don't think I've ever gotten so much enjoyment out of a vehicle. I mod the car to my tastes and could care less what others think.......although it's nice to hear "your car is nice" here and there. If I did it for someone else though it wouldn't be mine.

Saw something fly off my car during last autocross. Noticed after the run my driver side mirror glass was gone. It shattered on the course and required cleanup. Doh

VIS Trunk Installed

Bolted the trunk up. Fitment isn't perfect, but not too bad. Did not do any modifying or adjusting yet. The gaps are larger than stock, but don't really show up in pics. Latch worked perfect first time with no adjusting. Was able to use my gas strut setup, but will go to lower strength struts because of the lighter weight. VIS did a great job boxing it up, no damage at all. Overall I am happy with it.

Think I like it as is without the lip spoiler. Hmmm.

Was thinking about doing autocross with Windycitybmw at boomers this weekend, but the cost is just silly. One day of autocross is $50, plus it requires you be a member. Cheapest membership is 1 year for $48. So basically $100 to do an autocross. Might as well do a track day instead. Oh well, maybe can go to Milwaukee Event for Tri-State.

Hey Brian, I know you were saying you had another VIS carbon fiber trunk. What was the issue with it and I see you installed your new one. You said fitment isn't perfect.....what are the issues? I'm looking to purchase one and since this is basically the only one you can get. I want to know what I'm walking into.

I believe he said the original trunk was damaged during shipping.

Brian, that trunk looks really good. I might have to start saving for one to match my hood, but I wouldn't like to lose the oem spoiler as I like the look of it over the look of spoilerless..but that trunk is just too damn sexy. I may have to bite the bullet and fab my own lip spoiler wrapped in cf or something along that line to match.

Also, I know you said the weight savings was not really significant with the cf compared to oem trunk. Did you happen to weigh both to see the difference?

Other trunk was purchased used on ebay for $150 shipped. One of the corners got smashed somewhat and needs repair. The trunk came painted white and has some chips and scratches. You can have the trunk for free if you want to pick it up and use it or just test fit it. Since it has been painted you won't get the CF look though.

I forgot to weigh the new VIS trunk, but can compare spare VIS trunk to OEM.

is this the brace that attatches to the rear of the subframe and then extends back into the floorpan?...finger hovering on the buy button on heeltoes website for one of these for the race car

First, just want to say I may have overstated the importance of this brace, but it still helps. Part of the issue was my worn tires.

There isn't a brace made for the CL. You need to buy brace for the 98-02 Accord and it requires a little modification. I tried to purchase brace listed for CL from Heeltoe and he eventually refunded my money and said he could not get it.

Bought it from ebay. This should be the one.

thanks Brian...maybe will hit the track without it first and see how it goes...we always start each day with new tires at least on the front so tires might not be an issue but will see what happens.

First off, when picking up the Old VIS trunk after installing the New VIS trunk, my first thought was that Old trunk seemed heavier. Maybe the New VIS Trunk is lighter.

VIS does state: " In 2014, we further improved on this manufacturing process by introducing the Vacuum Infusion Process (V.I.P.), which utilizes a single-mold vacuum to produce parts that are 10-20% lighter than before while improving durability. We are transitioning our full spectrum of carbon parts to use the VIP process so that our customers can enjoy these improved products without incurring a huge cost increase."

Differences Between VIS Trunks

On the OLD Trunk, the Carbon Layer extends past the trunk bottom edge as seen below.

New Trunk it ends at the edge.

Trunk Weights

OEM Trunk 24 lbs

Old VIS Trunk 15 lbs

OEM Spoiler 5 lbs

So new VIS trunk has to be between 10-15 lbs, sorry I can't be more specific but don't feel like removing it now. Stupid me for forgetting.

For me, traction is only an issue in 2nd gear really. If the tracks are only 3rd gear or higher it might not be as noticeable as at autocross which is basically only 2nd gear and typically surfaces with less grip than a track.

ahh...thanks for clarifying...the odd track will use 2nd for maybe 1 corner, usually in traffic otherwise we can widen things out.....transitions in direction are not nearly as quick or tight as most autocross situations....in our civic - Laguna Seca corkscrew was 2nd if side by side...3rd if we could use our preferred line...turn 3b at Pacific in Seattle as well...will see what happens...thanks....any other goodies you might think would be beneficial to our situation, please let me know.

Chinese Food strapped in for ride home yesterday. Harness works great as a cup holder also that I can reach from driver seat while strapped in.

[QUOTE=brian6speed;15790075]Other trunk was purchased used on ebay for $150 shipped. One of the corners got smashed somewhat and needs repair. The trunk came painted white and has some chips and scratches. You can have the trunk for free if you want to pick it up and use it or just test fit it. Since it has been painted you won't get the CF look though.

No thank you. I got my car painted and purposely didn't paint the trunk because I wanted the carbon fiber hood. I also hate the spoiler on there now so it kind of works out for me. Seeing yours is going to force me to purchase one sooner than I wanted though.

K. I bought my trunk on Amazon for $567 + 26 shipping. That was cheapest I found new.

For hood, it is listed for $722 + 26 shipping on Amazon or $706 shipped on ebay. That is cheapest I saw. If anyone has better price let me know.

There is a company called Advan Carbon that also makes a hood for CL. Read that they are associated with Versus Motorsports who used to make a body kit for CL. They have more color options. I am going to stick with VIS to match trunk. Not sure which is better quality or fitment wise.
