03 steering wheel/airbag on a 01? (single vs dual stage airbag)

Hello guys, I'm not new to car forums, and really did quite a few advanced searches to try and find this answer, and I have yet to see anything.

my question is, I have a 2001 CL-S, and I want to purchase a 2003 steering wheel/airbag, which has the dual stage airbag, and apparently the 2001 is single stage.

In all honesty, I've read so many articles in the past that justifies the fact that airbags, especially to people with eye glasses, are more dangerous than protective. Seat belts are the best in terms of preventing head injuries.

In other words, I'm not entirely concerned about the airbag being functional or not, I'm just wondering if the plug would even match up? or would it throw an airbag light?

has anyone done this, please shed some light, thanks!!

Kevin

Would you rather your head hit the A pillar or steering wheel or windshield or the slight possibility of what "may" happen because you wear glasses? Even with the seatbelt the possibility of hitting the above mentioned is extremely likely and the airbag would lessen the possibility.

That said it wont plug in and due to it you will have a srs light and NONE of your other airbags will work either

Yes to SRS light...Yes to different plug, Yes to all airbags not working as the SRS triggers a code to deactivate them when a failure occurs.
You can swap them if you want by cutting the wires & splicing them, although there is a chance that once you apply power the airbag may go off. You just never know.
If you want just a newer steering wheel that will swap no problem.

That's the dumbest thing I ever heard in my life.

Good luck, and hope you have life insurance.

Just swap the wheel if you want and keep your airbag.

I drive without any airbags but I have racing harnesses and seats.

I totaled my 01 cl back in 2002 in a bad head on collision. None of the airbags even deployed. Luckily me and my girlfriend were not injured or I might have sued acura for faulty airbags.

Considering the age of these cars now it will be even harder to trust the airbags.

I am sure people on here will call me an idiot even if my setup is safer then theirs.

Most mature reaction to flame that I've seen yet.

Keep in mind that there are airbags in the seats that will be disabled if you have an SRS light. Could save your life, or even the passenger's life.

no reason to be rude when people input their comments, especially when they have fewer than 100 posts lol, but u guys with thousands of posts usually have something meaningful and helpful to say, so thanks~

I've been on way too many car forums to really take what ppl say to heart, I just take the valuable information and make a decision, and hope I can contribute as much as I can to this CL community of 10+ year old cars

btw, aside from all this, my SRS light is ALREADY ON, should I take it to the dealer then?

^ Ditto to that. If you have nearby shop you frequent or are familiar with, I'd stop in to confirm the source, which is likely a seat belt buckle. Indefinitely warrantied item, but stories of service writers not being upright with the customer have inclined me to do homework before visiting the dealership.

when the check the SRS light make sure they check BOTH seat belt buckles. The first time I went they just assumed it was the driver side. When they fixed that they found out that it was the passenger buckle to so I had to wait for them to order and drive all the back again the next week.. Honestly I have not been back to that stealership for anything since.

thanks guys for the awesome advice. I have now read up on this forum and youtube about the srs reset, and I will make sure to reset it today or tomorrow, if it stays on I will have a shop take a quick look at the seatbelt buckle possibility. thanks again!

That's pretty bad. I have a code reader that reads SRS codes and it specifies which belt buckle is faulty. At least you got 2 new buckles though so you wouldn't have to worry about the SRS problem for a while.
My driver's side buckle failed a year after my passenger buckle.
