crank position sensor

crank position sensor
just installed the clutchmasters stage 4 clutch kit. went smooth and all. drive fine, until i hit 2k rpm then the engine just bogs down. i get a crank position sensor code. when i start the car it revs to 1.5k then goes down to 1k but not smoothly just kinds jumps around then it idles fine. ive read of a guy on here with that kind of problem but i cant find the thread. any help is appreciated. i need the car in a few hrs for a show. and i disconnected the battery for a while then plugged it in hoping that would help but still have the same problem, and im almost 100% sure that everything is plugged in.

I would guess either flywheel isn't positioned correctly, a timing ring issue, unplugged sensor, or maybe a shim is required.
It seems this is common issue on 350z forum.

I think civicdrivr said a spacer is needed for the clutch fork and has to do with peddle engagement. I don't think it has anything to do with the crank sensor. Hopefully you get the problem solved easily without taking the trans back off.

there was no pin in the flywheel like there was in the stock one. so the shim goes on the sensor? sensor is plugged in. i took the sensor out to see if it was damages and its not. i would hate to take the trans out again. ive heard of the sensor going bad when doing a clutch on the cars. i went to the dealership to see if they had a sensor and they dont have any in the country. but he didnt find an oe one but wants me to check it out bc it was under cam sensor, not crankshaft sensor. so im gonna go on tues to see if it looks the same.

There was a shim that Paul had to make that went on the shift fork to get the proper amount of pedal movement, but that wouldnt cause your issue. The CPS isnt reading properly. Do you have another one to try? Did you make sure there isnt any debris on the sensor head?

i took the sensor out and cleaned it. all 3 pins are straight and the wiring looks good. all my grounds are connected. im gonna go to the dealership on tuesday to see if they have the right sensor bc eh called me saying that he found on under the name "cam" not crank. but looks just like the pic i showed him. so im just gonna confirm it.

Mine didnt have that pin either, but looking through pics I have of it, there was a shim for the flywheel. Did you install that?
The PN for the crank sensor in the bell housing is 37506-PGE-A12.

Civicdrivr your talking about the shim that comes with the kit and bolts behind the flywheel correct? Similar to this?

Similar.
Its in the bag on top of the flywheel.

the dealer got the wrong sensor. instead of going straight it has a 90deg bend at the connector. is that maybe a new design or a sensor for something else? i also went to napa with no luck. they said that the tsx and 3.2 odyssey sensors look the same. and they do but the connector is different. so my car is out of commission right now and i really need it. any help is appreciated.
can i use one from an 05 tl 6mt? or the accord 6mt?

First, which crank sensor is throwing the CEL? The one on the crank side or the one on the clutch side? The PN I posted above is for the flywheel side crank sensor.
I need to doublecheck, but I think that shim goes behind the flywheel, not in front of it.

im looking at the instructions now and the torque plate goes between the bolts and the flywheel. it says "clutch masters' aluminum flywheels come complete with a steel torque plate to protect the aluminum surface of the flywheel from the crank bolts when torqued down. the torque plate should only be placed on the front (pressure plate) side of the flywheel, it is not a shim."

Any updates? I'm curious to what the problem was/is?

nope. ordered the sensor from acuraautomotiveparts.org like they told me. they will tell me how long its gonna be till i get the sensor with in 48hrs, so i wait. they said it was on a national back order so after a few email later they said to try and they will tell me what honda tells them on the time. worst comes to worst, i will part her out bc no point in having a car that i cant drive.

Damn that sucks. I hope that's the problem because then it would be a easy fix. I just don't get how the sensor worked fine before the clutch swap then after this problem occurs. I'm going to get the clutch masters stage 3 kit and I've been procrastinating. I hope this doesn't happen to me. Keep us updated, good luck!

Damn it! I was hoping that would be the fix. I'm very curious to what the problem could be now. I know it sucks you have to take the trans back out but good luck!

While you have the tranny off, put the spacer behind the flywheel.

Do not put it behind the flywheel it does not go there. Do it just like the instructions says. The plate is only there to protect the flywheel surface from the bolts. That being said mine is where it is supposed to be, on the front of the flywheel not used as a spacer between motor and flywheel. Good luck hopefully you find out what the problem is when the tranny is off.

Hmmmm. Have you called CM? I wonder if they sent you the wrong flywheel.
#30
havent called them. but everything looks to be the same. did all sorts of measurements. everything is back together and i can rev it to what ever rpm i want now, but only once. then it goes back to limiting me to 2k rpm like before. u think it might be a harness issue? i didnt mess up my harness over a year ago and fixed what i found to be damaged but never replaced it. but everything work before i put the cm clutch in so unless i pulled on something too hard or pinched a wire some where, idk what it could be

Damn I hope you get the problem resolved. Let me get that clutch, I promise I'll put it to good use lol!!

Damn that's weird. Are you sure it has nothing to do with the flywheel? I noticed you have a 6 puck disc I wonder how much more aggressive that is compared to the stage 3 full face disc. Alright sounds good will keep in touch.

Any luck figuring it out? If not are you still willing to sell the whole clutch kit? If so how much shipped to zip code 23325 VA? I'm want to buy a kit within the next couple of days. I'm getting too anxious lol.
