02 Mdx intake velocity stacks question
I have read the 02 MDX longer velocity intake plenum stacks seem to be a mod that is sometimes added. Can I do this with my stock plenums or are they too long and I will lose airflow? I have polished my stock j32a2 upper manifold and wondered if this was a good mod.
Thanks |
yes pretty sure they bolt on. From what I remember they shift the power to give more torque down low. I think Brian6speed has done this. What mods do you have now? This would be one of the last things I would tackle as far as power mods.

I was purchasing a bunch of acura parts online for my timing belt change and valve adjustment, so I just ordered the stacks so I wont pay shipping again. Just want to make sure I'm not going backwards with the stacks.
My mods are on cl-s 6spd: UR crank pulley, pnp upper/lower intake manifolds, p2r intake mani spacer, 4 inch cai. Next mods will be manzo headers, cat delete, 72mm t-body. Any other recommendations? |
definitely do headers next. After that you're pretty much bolted. Do some weight reduction or swap in a J35A3 engine :)

I used to run mdx stacks before 3.7 IM, but I had P2R plenums. Not sure about running them with stock plenums, would need to dyno test to find out.
If you guys don't already know, P2R is selling big tube header now. It does not have bend to clear rear mount on 6 speed though. 6 speed would need to modify rear mount. P2R is selling plenums again, but pricey. See if anyone still makes or sells plenum spacers. I' recommend running lwfw over crank pulley. |

Brian, The big tube headers will clear if you run the auto rear mount bracket and rear motor mount. Sean from P2R confirmed that and is selling those 2 pieces for $160. |
Show me these headers.

Just did the mdx stacks
I have I/h/a oil exhaust work and plenum and throttle body spacers and I did stacks from the mdx today with the stock plenum and I noticed a power gain from a stop. Definitely does increase torque on stock plenums. P2r plenums next? Or the big tube headers r sick if they sell the auto mount and bracket too. Here's some pix even tho I forgot one of the mdx plenums themaelves. They stick out probly 2 inches where the cls just flares the runners.https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...d78aeed835.jpg
Cleaning and painting the top plate. Had to grind parts for hood clearence from using a oem mdx plenum spacer. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...794d704a0d.jpg Removal and high heat paint on the top plate https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...4c5f3b7e40.jpg Our stock cls manifold funnels next to a spare mdx manifold i used for parts. (The mdx ones stick out a good 2 inches but not close to the end of the oem plenums. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/acurazi...d163f786ee.jpg Finished product |

Hey guys. I'm also running the P2R headers. They're not bad, but I had to modify them quite a bit to fit my car. Here are some pictures for those interested.

The collector pipe mod gave me maybe another 0.3-0.5 second, but it feels like much more than that. The car flies now, after sorting the collector pipe. I'm not too impressed wiith the dyno number - my car recently put down 250 wheel (my mods include a 3-inch intake, 70 mm TB, J37A1 intake manifold, P2R headers with custom downpipe, Fujitsubo exhaust). I did dyno it on Russian gasoline, maybe that was the problem. It's not as good as what you guys get in the States for sure. |
Maybe now you can fix that oil leak :bitelip:
