What is the bolt size and nut size for the header?
Is it possible to use the stock bolt, i assume not because will probably be rusted and stripped while installing.

Well i'm bored today at work so i've collected some of the info from the previous pages....I'm a noob so correct me if any of this is wrong...

You can get the headers from either ssautochrome or xspower.

People are suggesting replacing the bolts and gaskets that come with the headers. The gaskets you can get from Acura, the bolts you can get from most auto parts stores. You'll need 6 grade 8 10mm x 30mm or 10x40 which gives you a bit more bolt to work with for an easier time getting them on.
Some people have hissing issues that seem to be coming from the flex pipe, so you can wrap it with header wrap. Detailed instructions are on page 9. You could also have them jet coated (ceramic coated) but it's more expensive. Page 8 has good links and info on that. Or you can leave it if you don't mind the sound. Some people have had no hissing. Might be worth putting them on and waiting to see how they sound. Wrapping the flex pipe sounds fairly simple and would only require a jack.
It may be hard getting the bolts off the stock headers so some people spray the bolts a few times a few days before the install to help get them off easier.

That's about all the info i got. Feel free to make additions. Hope this helps. Going to put mine on after winter.

Just put mine on Friday. Yes, the gaskets sucked. Gaskets were $13.68 from Murray's Auto. Yes there is a hiss coming from the flexpipe.

The car pulls much harder and sounds slightly louder. Fitment was perfect. The biggest problem was getting the nuts off the cat. This took some MAP gas and patience.

Entire project well worth the gains and the hiss is only noticable with windows down and not much to worry about anyway.

Definitely recommended!

I'm updating this.....

Exactly 2 years today I have had my XS headers on. They have been 100% fine. No noises, no leaks, & no cracks.
Mileage is not that much, clocking in at around 14K miles of use. However 3500 of that includes 2 straight 18 hour drives from FL to TN, to NY & back in the heat of summer.

That's good to read. I ordered and received mine, but I haven't installed them yet. I'm going to gather the parts needed (Acura OEM gaskets and bolts from Lowe's or Home Depot) for the install and have the headers installed in a month or so.

I know this is off-topic, but what is the (big) difference between the ultra series and tuner series crank pulleys, and does the stock diameter crank pulley give much gains?

Fuzzy I totally believe that you have had no problem. However I think that maybe the quality of the flex pipe has suffered over the last two years and the newer models aren't as good. I still think these are the best deal for the CLS but I still havent pulled the trigger yet.

Yeah I'm addicted too....welcome to the money pit! But seriously, the pullies makes a difference. The stock sized UR pulley are usually used with S/C motors, although you can use it if you like. But you'll get a little more performance with the underdriven pulley. You will benefit from both URs because of the weight savings. (1 lb vs 8 lbs.) It really works well with the headers

How hard is it to learn how to install headers, assuming you have no prior experience with working on cars, aside from little things, like replacing air filters?

It could either be a successful learning experience you could end up driving it to fix what you messed up, or finish the job. If your not confident I wouldn't attempt a header install. My girlfriend can change an air filter, but could she install headers.....Ummm NO

How many members had a crank pulley before installing the headers & had excessive noise?

Put it this way, if you personally own and are familiar with all the tools to do the job correctly, you could most probably do it. If you need to borrow and purchase a bunch of what is necessary, you probably shouldn't attempt it.

I am guessing your best bet is to find a friend - you know, that guy who knows "everything" about cars. That guy would likely do it for a case of beer or whatever.

Thanks for the advice. I have looked into it and will probably make that switch come springtime. I am in Chicago and done working on cars until then!

Quick question though, I was always under the impression that underdriving will cause your voltage to drop more - not a good idea when running a good stereo system. I am thinking of getting the stock size so I will not mess with anything but weight. How much to you think the gain would be with the underdrive vs the stock?

Also, how much of a bitch was it to switch it out from stock?

i also have a question, about my headers. the rubber inside hanger bracket thats attched to the subframe right before the cat kinda tore and now the headers hanger just sit inside the metal bracket now. the rubber is not holding the hanger in place very good so i had to hose clamp the hanger up. can you buy a new rubber piece? or do you guys have any more suggestions?

Okay, i installed my xs headers this morning. everything bolted on nicely. no problems whats so ever. no cel light, nothing.

took it for a spin. WOW! this thing pulls. my vsa light comes on when going into second gear LOL

i noticed when pulling into my driveway that i saw some smoke coming from the downpipe area...between the downpipe and catalytic...kinda smells like burnt wire.

just wanted to know if this is normal or not....

Probably just new exhaust smell, should be normal until everything burns off the pipes. However just to be safe I would check as well as you can that there isn't anything laying on the pipes and getting burnt

I installed my xs headers 2 wks ago. there's no hissing at all since I wrapped the flex pipe.
problem is while reving up from about 1k rpm to 1500 I get the coin in can noise. also it resonates at 1900 and 2900 rpm. lastly when I rev high to about 5k rpm and shut down the coin in can noise occurs while the rpms drop...
forgot to mentioned...it just started to resonate today.
any advice on how to get this fixed?

sounds like you used the bolts and gaskets that came with the headers. the coin in the can is actaully something down there. probably the o ring gasket at the cat that wasnt properlly installed and is shaking around. if it just started to resonate, go down there and try to tighten/check out the bolts. if you didnt replace the bolts and gaskets that came with it i would asap

i used two packs of exhaust wrap. i'll test it for a few weeks and update... i think other than the bolts, you should def. wrap the flexpipe prior to install =D


other than that these headers are bomb

I did change the gaskets but kept the original bolts to the cat...can that be the issue?

so i finally was able to get under my car and of course the coins in the can sound was my cat heat shield....hanging on by the o2 sensor...all slots for the bolts had rusted away and it was hanging by 1 bolt and also the sensor....took out the sensor and took off the bottom heat shield and the rattling sound is gone...yall might want to check that one your cars as mine has never been changed or looked at...i do still get that whooshing sound which i know is the gas running through the thinner pipes...and its a sound i def like...so...for me all problems have been resolved...oh yea...i didnt buy any extra parts...so far so good...used all stock parts/bolts that i still had...other than that...im happy...and the power feels great...next i need an exhaust and a good tunning...

pulled the cat heat shield off and no more vibration but i'm still getting the coin sound at acceleration...i re-tightened all the bolts but still no luck..any ideas?

Reuse the stock manifold gaskets, and go to the parts store and get better bolts. (m10 x 30 or m10 x 40) look for grade 8

I have a crank pulley and no resonance with the headers.

I installed mine myself. The only problem I had was one of the top OEM bolts before the the cat striped. No fitment problems! Sounds great for $128 shipped! Took me around 4 hours to do myself. Suggestion- use the longer bolts, makes it easier to work with.
