Looks like the series is available on HD DVD and blu-Ray now. Not sure how long it's been out, but it seemed like only standard DVD was available originally.

really why is that?

highdefdigest gave it good reviews in terms of movie and video quality. audio quality not so great.

Going to DL this tonight - is the BBC footage the same as Discovery, just different audio?

mizouse: just some of the camera's they used, because they were limited or constrained, weren't the best on some scenes you could see the grainy picture...
also you pay that much and it doesn't even have any extras? wtf is that the regular dvd version even has extras and inside looks

I'm in!

I made a David Attenborough reference a couple of months back, but I doubted anyone caught on. Great narrator.

I was watching the Great Plains episode last night, and about 3/4 of the way through, there is a segment on the Wild Ass of Tibet/India. The way he narrates it is just begging for an auto tune.

1:27 - "Female Asses are mysterious creatures."

I have a broken-into firestick and I've been checking daily for a 1080p version to no avail. Will have to wait till the end of the month.

I've watched the entire first series again in recent months to prepare for Planet Earth 2. Unfortunately, I'll probably have to wait until it hits Netflix.

Some scenes were filmed with the Sony A7S, fast forward to the 5 minute mark.
