Television: True Detective

I mentioned this in the Game of Thrones thread and can't believe no one ended up making a thread for it.

This show is AMAZING. It may not be all huge budget, dragons, zombies, guns and whores, but the writing/acting/production direction can't be matched. Best show on TV, hand's down, right now.

The writing in particular is absolutely awesome. 8 episodes in total (this week was #5) all written, directed, and produced by the same people. Which is nice because a lot of shows swap directors and or writers every episode. This show is very consistent. It's honestly a 8 part, 8 hour movie.

Matthew McConaughey has been brilliant. Woody isn't too far behind. I see grammy's in their future for this show.

The end of episode #4 was one of the finer 10 minutes / sequences I have ever seen. Especially on TV! It was a fast paced, chaotic, drug induced, non-stop, no camera breaks ride. 6 solid minutes of the camera never stopping. Very Cuaron/CoM.

If you haven't watched this show yet, watch it. Sundays on HBO.

BTW I posted because I want to spark conversation. This show is written so well there are hints EVERYWHERE.

Anyone ever read The King in Yellow?

Caught up Saturday to watch the latest episode on Sunday and I'm absolutely hooked. McConaughey and Harrelson kill it together.

This coming Sunday walking dead is getting the back seat and its not even close.

With that last cliff hanger it looks like there is some dark shit ahead.

Yes! This show is by far the best thing on TV right now. The acting is stellar.

I'm sad that Harrelson and McConaughey won't be in the next season.

Yea I don't believe Cohle is a bad guy. Personally, I think Rust and Marty are still at it. One from the inside one from the outside. They never had a falling out. They are getting the evidence they need to bring this powerful "secret society" down.

The one inmate said there is a place that rich and powerful people go to worship stones and to beat and murder women and children. IMO that would be Reverend Tuttle (big tall guy we met 1st episode) and his Governor brother (who by now could be the President for all we know). Along with the tent evangelical preacher and the sheriff we met in the first episode. Marty- "Girl goes missing and it's not released statewide?" Sheriff-"All those records got lost with the old sheriff". Uh huh! Then Rust found that whole list of records that were "Inputted with Error" or something. Riiiight.

There is so much subtlety in this show maybe some aren't picking up on or just don't like it's pace.

This show is incredible! Crushed all 6 episodes so far on the weekend and I'm hooked. Sucks there are only 2 left.

I've heard next season will be a completely different cast and storyline. Similar to American horror story (new storyline, same actors).

Seasons are self-contained for TD.

What did everyone thing of the outcome?

While I thought the episode was good, and the season great overall, I was slightly let down at the end. So many little clues and stuff that was just never followed up on.

Anyway, catch this all at once on bluray when you get the chance!

Felt the same way, they rushed the climax confrontation prelude, left loose story lines, that strange purple cloud in the fight scene. But overall I liked it, not perfect but pretty damn good suspenseful series.

It's like American Horror Story. News characters, new plot.

I have a feeling we will have two females leads in S2.

s anyone else as pumped for True Detective on DVD?

I saw a few episodes when they aired on HBO, but it was a transitional time for me and I didn't get to finish. I am super excited that tomorrow I can finish the series. In my opinion, two of the only actors that could have pulled that off. That is all.

What's a "DVD"?

Is that the thing you have to rewind to be kind?

Well, my computer is crappy, and I'd rather not waste time on buffering due to shitty internet here in the boonies, so this was my only option to watch it without hunching over a tablet like a masturbating pervert on Starbucks Wifi.
