As I personally suspected, Amazon's billion dollar Lord of the Rings TV show will take place during the Second Age, thousands of years before the events in The Hobbit/Lord of the Rings trilogy.

It looks like Numenor will be featured heavily. This island nation of Men was so rich and powerful it could directly take on Sauron and his armies. Epic battles, tales of moral corruption, a small band of heroes escaping certain doom and an alliance of Men and Elves taking on Sauron "once and for all"...

This should be some excellent television

Cool.

There is some great First Age stuff too that hopefully someone will get to spending billions on.

I'm personally looking forward to seeing Sauron corrupt the Kings. He didn't always look evil back then.

Oh shit.... They're starting to delve into stuff from the Silmarillion.

And yeah, there's some wild stuff in the First Age too - Morgoth, armies of Balrogs... Maybe if this does well, someday they may get into that as well.

Hope the writers are great. Lots of the Second Age never really got fleshed out by JRRT.

Maybe a chance to know more about the other istari and their wanderings. Also background on the 9 wraiths, some of whom are supposed to be Black Numenoreans.

Yeah the istari are the shit. Whenever my kids and I get into "Gandalf vs Dumbledore" I'm like, "Gandalf is a demi-god... he fought a demon beast and basically just ended up leveling up! Dumbledore was fatally wounded by a cursed ring... Gandalf was smart enough to make a Hobbit pick that shit up for him."

Would be nice to finally hear something about the 2 blue wizards, that Tolkien seemed to completely forget about.
