So Chuck finally revealed his true colors to Jimmy.... And Mike proves he's still a complete badass.

Man, does anyone else feel awful for Jimmy in this show? I mean we all knows he becomes Saul, but that episode was a real gut punch.

I feel bad for him but the show finally got rolling and next week is the season finale already.

Like the show, but find the pacing a bit slow and the seriousness of all of the characters a little bit of a downer. I'd like someone to actually laugh or be joyful once in a while. Breaking Bad had more velocity and some levity -- it felt more real.

I see it very real, a lot of tight ass characters. Now that the foundation has been laid. Season two should really roll.

Season 1 of Breaking Bad was like watching paint dry, in similar fashion Better Call Saul is taking it's time to do the character development. It will pick up.

Gotta disagree with you on that. I didn't find anything about season 1 of BB to be painfully slow

I agree, Breaking Bad didn't really hit a rapid pace until a few seasons in. It was worth being patient for the payoff, but the first season or so dragged while they laid the groundwork.

Breaking Bad also benefited greatly from binge watchers, word didn't get out about how great the show was until season 3-4, so people could pile through earlier seasons and get hooked.

So this takes place prior to Breaking Bad?

Guess I should check this one out. But I definitely need a break from the tv after binge watching Breaking Bad.

Takes place before.

Better Call Saul is quite the series so far, can't wait to see how each season plays out.

im guessing, with how Chuck rejected him, Jimmy feels he wont get taken seriously in a law firm setting. He probably realized then that he would be better off being a "criminal" lawyer.

Jimmy certainly has some limitations in his legal competency/experience. Chuck was the one that saw the smoking gun in the retirement home case. Jimmy has a great rapport with people and a great imagination for getting around the law. He'd have failed as a law firm lawyer and I think he knows it.

He needs overall competence in the law in the big firm -- he'd need to make the connection between the invoices and RICO like Chuck did.

He needs his skills in avoiding prosecution/conviction on his own. He's better at working the sleazy side of things and great at running a scam.

Was there an indication in the episode last night that he realized his overall law competence is lacking? I get he realized he can work the sleazy side thanks to the ring.

It wasn't last night. It was in the other episode where Chuck immediately made the connection and Jimmy simply didn't see it. Even when Chuck explained it to him he didn't seem to immediately grasp it.

It might be better to characterize it as being outside his area of speciality/interest. He knew they were doing something wrong, but he didn't know how to maximize the payout and blow it up into a class action monster.

Looking back, I think all of season 1 was the story about Jimmy trying to redeem his past and trying to earn the respect of his brother. He's trying to do the right thing, time and time again. Seems clear now that he was wrestling with the idea of the person he wanted to be, and that nagging feeling inside that kept telling him he's falling short. I think the scene with his brother was the first confirmation that he wasn't good enough. I think the last episode is about Jimmy realizing he's never going to be. I think the very last scene was about Jimmy coming to terms with what his is, and what he isn't.

Makes a great setup for Season 2 where things can get really interesting.

I wonder when season 2 starts...? I saw that it's already been picked up for a 13-episode season 2 but I'm hoping we don't have to wait close to a year to see it.

Is anyone watching that show "The Last Man on Earth"? Jimmy's buddy is also on that one.

Great interview with Peter Gould, the other creator of the show. More light into the finale and what season 2 expects:

Better Call Saul Boss on Jimmy's Big Choice: He's "One Step Closer to Saul Goodman" - Today's News: Our Take | TVGuide.com

Actually I have seen like 4 eps of Last Man. It's pretty good and I keep catching spoilers like people still alive. Not exactly appointment TV as I'm catching up on Suits but def in my Hulu queue.

Not exactly Saul related but has some info at the end.

Breaking Bad's Los Pollos Hermanos Could Become a Real (and Spectacular) Restaurant

Ever want to eat at a meth kingpin's fast food restaurant? If you've ever seen Breaking Bad, your answer is, "Yes, of course." Your dream may become a reality! People who aren't meth kingpins are looking in to making Los Pollos Hermanos, Gus Fring's (Giancarlo Esposito) restaurant chain from Breaking Bad, a real thing!

"Believe it or not...there is talk of a Pollos Hermanos becoming a real restaurant. This is not an idea that I generated personally," Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan said in a Reddit AMA. "But it's one that's been presented to me, through the good folks at Sony, and the idea came to them from a businessman who has an interest in doing just that. Speaking for myself, I'd love to see that happen!"

Speaking for everybody in the world, we would also like to see that happen! It would serve blue rock candy, right? Right. What about pizzas for throwing? Well...maybe not that. Gilligan recently spoke out about that, asking fans to stop throwing pizza on the rough of the home that served as the exterior for Walter White's (Bryan Cranston) TV house.

"I never anticipated that the pizza-throwing scene would be one of the 'non-submergible' moments of Breaking Bad. None of us did. It seemed like a fun thing to include in the episode at the time, but none of the writers of the series thought it would take on a life of its own," Gilligan said. "Thank you for asking that question, because it once again gives me the opportunity to say: for any of the folks who wanted to throw pizza on the roof of the White house, it's very unfair to the sweet lady that lives there. Please, please do NOT do it. If you want the photo of a pizza on the White house roof: Photoshop it!!! That's the way to do it in this day in age. You can have any size pizza, and it won't risk this very sweet lady breaking her back getting her ladder out and climbing up to clean pizza off her roof."

Stop throwing pizza. Just go buy chicken from the fictional restaurant that might become a real thing.

Gilligan is back in New Mexico thanks to Better Caul Saul, the Breaking Bad prequel starring Bob Odenkirk as Jimmy McGill/Saul Goodman. Jonathan Banks, who played Breaking Bad favorite Mike Ehrmantraut, is a series regular and we've already seen a familiar face, Tuco (Raymond Cruz), show up. Will we see more? WILL WE SEE WALTER WHITE AND JESSE PINKMAN? Never say never.

"Anybody and everybody," Gilligan said when asked who else could show up. "The sky's the limit! That's the beauty of this format. The story takes place six years in the past, where all the Breaking Bad characters are alive and well, but that's not to promise that you'll see every character that we introduced in Breaking Bad. We're still feeling our way through Jimmy McGill's format, discovering how and why he becomes Saul Goodman—and in the process, there's any number of directions our story can take. So I couldn't really tell you even if I wanted to who will show up, or when. Better Call Saul is still very much a work in progress."

Better Call Saul has already been renewed for a season two. And if you're thinking his tease about the "sky" being the limit is referring to Skyler (Anna Gunn), well, you're not alone. Maybe Marie (Betsy Brandt) gets into some sticky-finger trouble and Skyler gets Jimmy to come to her rescue?
