What's the tax rate in Canada? Pretty sweet that lotto isn't taxed there.

I thought is was pretty clear that the intent was: $1000 per week 'take home' was approx equal to $100,000 per year earnings before taxes.

"It's without taxes so it's equivalent to a salary of more than $100,000 a year ....

Winning $521 million Mega Millions ticket sold in New Jersey

NEW JERSEY (WABC) -- One very lucky person who bought a Mega Millions ticket in New Jersey is now a multi-millionaire -- he or she is the single winner of the $ 521 million jackpot.

Mega Million's website did not list where, exactly, the winning ticket was sold, although the New Jersey Lottery tweeted that the ticket was sold at the Riverdale Lukoil South in Riverdale, Morris County.

The jackpot winner will receive the fourth largest jackpot in the history of the game. No one has matched all six numbers drawn since January.

Ticket sold in New Jersey wins $315 million Powerball jackpot

Updated 2 hrs 6 mins ago

TRENTON, New Jersey -- Lottery officials say a single ticket sold at a New Jersey grocery store won the Powerball jackpot worth an estimated $315.3 million.

The New Jersey Lottery said the winning ticket for Saturday night's drawing was sold at a Shoprite in Hackensack, Bergen County. The ticket matched all five white balls and the Powerball to win the jackpot, which has a $183.2 million cash value.

Acting Executive Director John White said officials encourage the winner to sign the back of the winning ticket, make a copy of both sides and put it in a safe place, and then contact lottery headquarters.

White noted that the Mega Millions winning ticket was sold in New Jersey in March.

The winning numbers in the May 19 drawing were: 03-06-09-17-56, Powerball 25, Power Play 3X.

2 winners. 1 in Iowa, 1 in New York

https://www.cnbc.com/2018/10/28/two-...-tax-bill.html

Two Powerball players woke up an awful lot richer on Sunday morning.

After 21 weeks with no jackpot winners in the game, Saturday night's drawing yielded two tickets that beat the odds and matched all six winning numbers (8, 12, 13, 19 and 27, with a Powerball of 4). The chance of winning is 1 in 292 million.

The final jackpot came in at $687.8 million, which will be split between the winners — one in Iowa and one in New York. The haul marks the third-largest prize in the game's history and the fourth-largest U.S. lottery jackpot ever.

If the winners go with the immediate lump sum payment, they would each start with $198.1 million (versus the $343.9 million they'd each get if they were to choose the annuity). The federal government will shave off 24 percent right off the bat — and more will be due at tax time.
