Looks go a long way. Many moons ago I had a boss who was talking to me about the same thing... he wouldn’t hire anyone who wasn’t clean shaven and with a clean haircut. It didn’t matter what you did after being hired. Most people show up all perfect looking for the interview... and then when they get hired, you magically see all these piercings show up, etc.

In all seriousness Mystery
You made a big leap getting out there
But staying in a motel til your feet land was a bad decision

You need to guard your money until you have positive cash flow
Even if you get a job today, your lucky to get paid weekly
Most jobs are every two weeks, some jobs once a month

Anyways, don't die, don't get raped
If you suck dick for cash, get paid first

and what Horseshoez really meant to say is join the Marines you hippie

The car salesman's job isn't to have intimate, detailed product knowledge. It's to sell the car at the highest price you can and to upsell the dealer add-ons to maximize the dealer profit. Your commission will depend on that.

I can do that...

This thread delivers on so many levels. Good fun and good advice!

I like Cu2's advice. If you want to work the counter at AutoZone, go and look at what the employees are wearing, how their hair is, etc. If you want to work the counter at Budget car rental at the airport, go see how they dress, shave, etc. Then emulate.

When my previous arrangement ended a few weeks ago, I was basically threatened to be legally evicted, and had to beg for just an extra week...

Midnight Mystery I don't know if this story will resonate with you or not...

Back in the summer of 1977 I was working as a janitor in a grocery store and working on cars to try and make enough money to keep myself in school. It was a living, but not much; I was about as poor as a church mouse. Anyway, at the time I had long hair down to the middle of my back, and while I don't remember all of the circumstances, I got some very nasty smelling gooey stuff in my hair which required me to pretty much cut it all off. Trust me, living in San Diego back then and having no hair made people treat me like I was one of the Hare Krishna cult members; not surprising I vowed to myself never to cut my hair short again.

Fast forward to fall of 1978, I was sick and tired of being poor and decided to try and get a better job; I started visiting employment agencies, and on one such visit they recruiter said, "I have a guy who wants to hire someone very quickly; will you see him now?" Naturally I said yes. I drove over to the interview and was shown into the interview immediately. The guy interviewing me, we'll call him "Bill", asked me what I'd been doing for the previous several years and then said, "I have a job I can offer you, however, you would need to cut your hair and shave; can you do that?"

I didn't think about for even two seconds, "Sure," I said.

He picked up the phone, made a call, and said, "Rudy, I'm sending a young man over to you right now, take good care of him." Bill then told me to walk across the street to the barber shop and let him do his magic; be back here in less than an hour, I have a plane to catch.

When I got back he surveyed the results and said, "Yup, you'll do very well." The job he offered me was for more than twice what I was making with my two gigs combined; they basically trained me for the new job and I paid them back with several years of good work before I moved on to another company.

A few months later Bill pulled me aside and said, "Ordinarily I would have asked someone like you a few questions and told them I'd get back to them in a week. However, since I was pressed for time I gave you a second chance by asking you if you were willing to cut your hair."

Very cool story, thanks for sharing, and I see why you asked me that...

I just want to look like myself again...

Personality of rental counter meets look of AutoZone... OK....

Currently, we are spending $750 a month, but we worked out some financial detail that should help...
Next time you stretch your time until you can jump.
If it's your legal residence, it would have taken them time to evict you.
It should take them weeks to kick you out legally.

What do you mean by we? Are you living with someone?
It just sounds like you're super desperate financially.

If you really have a limited cash supply, you need find ways to keep your money.
Rooms for rent, sheds, shelters, etc.

My best advice Mystery.. with your background. Find a trade.
You can do real well if you can do an apprenticeship.
Electrician, plumbing, HVAC, even carpentry.

Not sure what your work ethic is, but you have transportation.
If you have a good attention to detail and willingness to learn, you could do real well.
I know some guys who are making $150 / hr.

It depends on the market you're in, but learning a trade could be a secure future.
Definitely get a GED. Don't want something that simple to roadblock you.

I was going to post something similar, nice job.

In addition to the above list, up here in New Hamster at least, welders get some pretty big bucks and some very choice assignments as well. A kid down the street just came back from a three month trip to a Navy base in Spain, and he is heading for Hawaii next. Not a bad gig.

Plot twist, Mystery Meat has like 15 personalities. He was the person he was caretaking for, and he's also the person who got him fired and he evicted himself.

Maybe even the person he has an interview with tomorrow and who is trying to steal his Identity.

Ok, so I registered with a temp. agency earlier... So I'm enrolled....

She said to save her phone numbrer, and she'll keep in touch... She was super nice, and on her first week too, so atleast I like my representative!!!

The other two people there seemed quite disheveled comared to me... One guy just walked out before finishing his application...
And the other guy had baggy pants and dreds and looked like he gang bangs... Meanwhile, I made small talk with the office women...

Feel good about this...

I made a phone call in accordance with a text I recieved yesderday morning snd it led to an interview scedueled for next Thursday at Firestone, where I'd be doing oil changes, brakes and tires...

My Mom has a co-worker who's son is my age and he did the tires at a Sam's Club, but moved on to a job doing oil changes, brakes and tires at a Honda dealer, but they're all messed up right now because they're in Panama City...

I had to call the Chicago, IL area... I could barely understand her talking at times, not that Chicago has a crazy accent, it was just a little different...

The jobs she offered interviews for were either in Mobile or Biloxi, so I set it up in Biloxi, not familiar with Mobile, so I chose Biloxi... Turns out the job I sent an application in for was one where I'd need 5-10 years expirience... It must have been like a master tech or something... I didn't see that listed when I applied... Oh well, I'm enrolled in an agency, and have one interview set up...

So, I got a job and probably lost it on a minor technicality...

I get a phone call from my temporary employment agency saiying that I found you a job, and explained the pay, hours and working conditions...

Start Monday...

I'm ready, but I kept thinking, "Monday", in my mind... That's fine, and exactly what I expected...

BUT...............

She said, can you be here by 5pm for your drug test, which I knew I'd need... And I told her, well, I'm 70 miles north, in Htown, where my hotel is...

She started thinking, that maybe I could get there by 5:15-20 or so... But, I'd have to freshen up, then drive 1h 15mins down there... She said, well, I'm sorry, I'll find you sonething else...

I feel good, this was a trial run... Hopefully, she made a note to let me know atleast 2 hours before 5 next time...

This was the Hispanic lady who is mkre expirienced than who I worked with yesterday... She is super nice, but I have a hard time understanding her over the phone...

Gasp..... .... Maybe I'm going deaf????????

They found me work in exactly 24hrs, so I think I'm in good hands...

She probably would've called me earlier, had she known if she could offer the job to me earlier in the day...
