Thanks. I am still deciding which way to go, mechanical or hydraulic, I am leaning mechanical though.

28.4 miles this morning. cold, overcast, and sometimes getting some ocean mist.

Not bad for not riding in almost two weeks.

I went to the bike shop on Friday and asked about fit and my shoulder...they said try to slightly tilt the handlebars up and see what that does. Well, my should still started to bother be around the 20 mile mark...but it wasn't as pronounced...and my hands werent getting numb as quick...so thats good I guess.

My god.

Did you set an annual goal this year?

It is going to be hard to do it as it gets harder to get the miles in with the shorter days.

31 miles this evening. My best so far. Riding through heavy rain for 15 of those miles and my daughter busting her ass made the ride not near as pleasant though.

I wish.

So far this year, I've only managed 123 miles. GPS on my phone is broken until I upgrade, so no Strava data for time or climbing.

It's August 26, and I've ridden more than 1000 miles this month. First time since 2009. Stoked. Also, lighter and stronger than I've ever been.

That's awesome -- great recovery from your hip injury!

I've ridden very little this August. Allergies have been horrendous -- I suck gas until about 2 to 2.5 hours into a ride and then my nose lets go with a bunch of mucus and then I can breathe and keep up with the group. My poor bike is covered in sweat and snot. It's neither pretty nor fun.

Finally was able to get out for a decent ride on Saturday. Between watching the kid (wife at work) and rain, it had been 3 weeks.

I think I went out too fast and/or was not properly fueled since I did NOT have a good ride. Within the first 5 miles my hands and lips were *tingly*. I ended up doing okay after that, but just felt "blah" on the bike. Only averaged 15 mph over 35 miles where I easily average almost 17.

Also I think I need to get my wheels trued.

I'm suspecting I might need to as well. I get a little bit of instability feeling from the rear at times. Almost feels like a low tire.
Hoping it's in my head or something simple. Since my wheels are discontinued & replacement parts are non-existent. And I can't afford a new set of wheels right now.

My front wheel has always felt squirrelly...even after a tune where they supposedly aligned the wheels.

Remember that Roubaix? It's got a longer wheelbase than your Allez, and feels more stable. The shorter wheelbase bikes tend to feel a lot twitchier (a/k/a more responsive) in the steering.

That's one of the reasons I love my Roubaix -- it fits my old man reflexes. Some people hate them for the exact same reason because they prefer a more responsive bike.

Is there a good site where I can search for riding routes?

Going to Palm Desert this weekend and if I can fit it, i want to take the bike to try and get a ride in.

I don't know if anyone else has mentioned it, but it's important to keep your arms bent at the elbow. I tend to lock mine if I'm getting tired and let my form slip, and it will definitely affect your shoulders.

I mentioned it in a post I made last week, along with working on core strength, as I was thinking the same thing as you. I still have to remind myself/focus on maintaining a proper position on long rides because I tend to forget/get tired and start locking my arms without realizing it.

I got sick for a long period early this summer too. Somehow I picked up a Blastocystis hominis infection that just destroyed me for about 2.5 weeks, and then got the flu shortly thereafter.

As others have said Strava is great.
I have used it to find rides in areas that I have traveled and then used ridewithGPS.com to modify the ride to start from the hotel that I was staying in.

Nice Astro, that is always my goal per month during the summers. This year April - August are all over 1k miles.

That sucks, I had the flu at the end of 2012 that knocked me out for the final 2+ weeks of the year.

West, i did a quick search on Blastocysti. good thing you only had it for a couple of weeks.

Mark....that looks miserable. the mornings can dip down into the 20s but the afternoons usually reach 60s so it's not that bad.

Thanks for the kind words gents.

My goodness some of you guys put on crazy mileage!!!

I'm planning on putting in a lot of hard work over the winter/early spring to get ready for riding season next year. I'm coming up with my goals for next year right now. One thing I def need to do, and will start with immediately for personal enjoyment, is getting out on my damn mtb more. My road bike has completely taken over!!!

Almost became road pizza on todays ride.

An asshole came out of a driveway on the other side of the main road to cut across to a side street on my side of the road and never ever looked.

I ended up having to hop the curb to avoid getting t-boned

I was suppose to clean my mtb and take today off as a rest day, so I could go off for a big mtb ride either tomorrow or Monday. I couldn't resist the nice weather though, and finally succumbed to my desire to go on a ride. I wasn't feeling good (heavy legs, kinda sore) at first, and was thinking about aborting the ride, but then my legs came to me and I ended up having a great ride (nothing crazy, just a hair under 50kms). So happy I went out. I was like Euphoric when I got home, and have been in a super good mood ever since. Just an amazing day for a ride in my neck of the woods.
