Has spread to the spire.

It looks so intense and spread out that there might not be anything left

Saw a dude with a Notre Lame shirt on today at lunch, find it ironic now... Granted it was mocking the college but still

The spire has collapsed.

The tweeter in chief has recommended using airborne water tankers to put it out. And advises that they must act fast.

Duning and Kruger would be so proud.

Same. Was there in late summer 2017 and didn't go in. Just hung out in the park out front until after sunset and even that was amazing. Horrible to see this happening...

Also, since this is kind of a big deal, I updated the thread title a bit...

I saw it back in 2011. An absolutely amazing place and a huge historical loss.

They said the inside wooden structure is now engulfed and will likely be completely burned.

French fire chiefs said they don't even know if the fire can be stopped. Sounds like it might be completely destroyed..

There is a lot of wood in the roof and internal structures. The walls and columns are stone but the building (obviously) is not at all fire proof.

Apparently the Paris fire brigade did tweet that they are using all equipment at their disposal except water bombers because they would destroy the structure.

Their priceless artifact is burning and they still manage to treat our dunce better than he deserves.

Regarding the art, BBC is reporting much of it had been removed due to the renovations. Still, I agree it’s a historical tragedy, and one that will be talked about for centuries.

Just send him over and drop him in the fire. He sucks the oxygen out of every room he's ever in. The fire will be out in no time.

Just saw that, as well. I don't think that likely accounts for all the glasswork and the artistic elements incorporated into the structure, though.

At least one of the Rose Windows is gone.

It's worth mentioning, though, most of the stained glass in Notre-Dame is not original. It's still a tragedy.

Saw a few interior pics on FB from the Paris firefighters, the damage is not as extensive as initially thought.

The fire has destroyed the wood roof & spire along with some other elements, but the vaulted ceiling survived and Notre Dame is otherwise mostly intact.

I have heard the vaulted stone ceiling was really only damaged where the spire fell on it.
