Movie: Polar

Looks interesting. Movie is based on comic @ Polar on-line comic

On Netflix on January 25, 2019

The world’s top assassin, Duncan Vizla, aka The Black Kaiser (Mads Mikkelsen), is settling into retirement when his former employer marks him as a liability to the firm. Against his will, he finds himself back in the game going head to head with an army of younger, faster, ruthless killers who will stop at nothing to have him silenced.

So like an older John Wick. There's even a dog.

I suppose. But this came out before John Wick (2014) came out.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polar_(webcomic)

Polar depicts the story of international hitman Kaiser Black, the titular character of Santos' 2009 graphic novel Black Kaiser, as he is forced out of retirement after an assassination attempt is made on his life. The story, described as "bleak", features a femme fatale character and a large amount of gore, and it is set in an icy landscape. The webcomic is notable for its lack of dialogue and speech balloons, and features a somewhat minimalistic style in color,[1] being rendered entirely in stark black, white, and orange.

This looks interesting. Mads coming up since Hannibal. Also was good in Casino Royale.

A lot of negative reviews for this... mostly about the excessive and sometimes unncessary violence. Yeah, there's a lot of it.

I thought it was okay. I'd give it a C

Spoiler
I thought it got more interesting at the very end when Duncan decides to help Camille find out why he (Duncan) was hired to kill her father. Part 2 seems like it'll have more interesting stories.

If you focus on the main story between Duncan and Camille, it's good.

Gotta filter out the dumb group of assassins trying to kill Duncan.

Agreed.

The dumb group of assassins were really dumb.. from the beginning you knew what would happen. Although that one that plays the slut with the nice body

Also some people previously said it was really bloody... well yea.. it was very much so. But I guess that is how they meant it to be.. kid of like Kill Bill or Sin City (although it was cartoon blood).

But overall, I enjoyed it

Oh man, I just saw this and thoroughly enjoyed it!

You see from the very 1st scene you KNOW this is not a movie that takes itself too seriously. Eccentric clothing/colors and the bumbling idiot head of that assassin's guild are clear giveaways.

Definitely some nice reference to John Wick as well and I think they really did a great job on a different take than Wick and not trying to copy it but still made a similar movie that's pretty original imo.

It's a fun assassin/action movie that actually does well with the main plot between the killer and that woman/girl (I should've seen that twist coming earlier...). And the bumbling group of killers could've been written a bit better....but oh well

Sequel should be fun.
