Update (from the horses mouth)

George Lucas shows up at American Cinematheque's 23rd annual award presentation honoring Samuel L. Jackson and ComingSoon.net managed to snag him for a few questions.

Is he seriously looking at an Indy V? "We're looking for a "MacGuffin," which is an object that he goes after. They're very hard to come by."

Will Marion and Mutt be involved? "It really depends on what it is Indy goes looking for and then how the story falls out of that, and then how convenient or inconvenient to have the group there."

No, it sucked. Harrison Ford seemed like an actor trying to play Indiana Jones instead of naturally being the character.

i hear what you were saying.

but for the first 2/3, i didn't think it was that bad. yes, ford looked out of place, and the dialogue was cheesy. but it was still enjoyable until the final 1/3 when it got really dumb. just my opinion.

Labooooooooooooooooooooof to return for Indy V?

Shia LaBeouf has plans to once again star alongside Harrison Ford's Indiana Jones as his son, Mutt Williams, says a report from ShowbizSpy.

The actor is quoted as saying that he's been pitched the idea for the fifth film in the franchise by Steven Spielberg himself.

"They're script writing right now," said LaBeouf, "...[I]t sounds crazy. It sounds really cool."

Though it's impossible to say how long the writing process might take, LaBeouf's comments seem to be the first confirmation that a fifth Indiana Jones adventure will indeed be a sequel to 2008's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, for example, was technically a prequel to Raiders of the Lost Ark, a storytelling technique that George Lucas and Spielberg don't seem to have plans to revisit.

Indiana Jones Taking the James Bond Path?

Before we get into this nugget of info, letís give you a quick cinematic history lesson.

Uncle George and Spielberg took a little trip to Hawaii in May 1977 during the release of Star Wars. While soaking up the sun and drinking Mojitos on the beach, Spielberg mentioned how much heíd love to direct a James Bond movie.

The man in flannel (Lucas) hit him with an idea he was toying with based upon the cliffhanger adventure serials of the 1930s. Three years later, Spielberg was directing Raiders of The Lost Ark and the rest is history.

You see Spielberg and Lucas always saw Indy as their own James Bond type movies and now it appears that they might look like 007 even more.

Our ever reliable sources (same folks who told us about Rocket Raccoon) are informing us that while Harrison Ford might still play Indiana Jones in the next film of the franchise, the window of making that happen is getting smaller and smaller.

There is a date and if Indiana Jones 5 is not moving forward by then, the studios are 100% prepared to recast a younger Dr. Jones and ready up a new trilogy.

Letís be realistic, Harrison is not the box office draw he once was and he is only getting older.

Donít think of it as a reboot but just recasting the same way the James Bond (Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Pierce Brosnan, Daniel Craig) movies have been doing for the better part of five decades.

And who just might be one of the actors that the studio is looking at ? The word is that they are looking at several but Bradley Cooper is at the top of the list.

As to who might be writing the next Indy? We are hearing that Frank Darabont might be taking a crack at the franchise once again. All we heard is that Darabont pitched an idea, what that idea is, I have no clue as our source wouldnít say.

Letís also get it straight, COOPER doesnít have the role or signed the deal, itís just someone who they are looking at to play the role.

Darabont? Awesome.
Cooper? Perfect.

Honestly I can't remember which film it was but a scene in it totally made me think Cooper would play a perfect Indiana Jones.

No no no.

Bradley Cooper should be in 'Uncharted'.

Leave Indiana Jones alone and stop raping our childhoods

River Phoenix

The next Indiana Jones film will probably be directed by M. Night Shyamalan and have Dwayne Johnson playing Indiana Jones.

A reboot implies the same story right? All I see happening here are the same characters.

I mean, do you say the new Bonds are reboots of the old ones?

Nah, reboot's don't necessarily mean the same story. In terms of James Bond, every new Bond to me is a reboot. How else do you explain Bond being basically the same age from the 50's to present day?
In the case of Indy, it's going to be impossible for you to watch Cooper being the same character, since there's been only one Dr. Jones for over 30 years.

You have a one of kind definition of what a re-boot is.

Clearly each James Bond film is not a re-boot.

Were all the Batman films prior to Nolan's Bats all re-boots to you as well?

Here we go:

Batman
Batman Returns - sequel
Batman Forever - reboot, because it is clear that Schumacher's Batman is not in the same universe as Burton's Batman.
Batman & Robin - not a reboot, although Clooney replaced Kilmer as Batman, it is clearly in the same universe as the previous movie

Same with Bond movies. The Connery movies are distinctly separate form the Moore movies. They are clearly not in the same universe, or time period. And going from Connery to Craig, it's absolutely a different Bond, since it is so clear they are in different decades (pre and post communism) .

Jury is still out on this new Indy. My guess is that it will be a reboot. It's just too hard to picture anyone else apart from Harrison Ford being Indy.

You might have a point with this, but then again it had the feel of a re-boot with it being the first book, and a new actor playing Bond, but it really was not a re-boot as they did not re-tell an origin story, or really switch much up.

Same characters, same organization, same spy stuff.....and it picked up as if not much had changed.....hence what they want to do with Indy...not a re-boot just a continuing of the franchise, with the continuing adventures of Indy.

Indy isn't going to get a new dad. They are not going to go after the ark again, or after the grail....it's just another Indy adventure....just like the bond franchise.

It's a serial after all.

It was his first couple of missions as a 00, I don't know how else it could be considered. MI6 didn't start with Bond, and the only carryover was Judi Dench.
