Top Pro: great storyline.
Top Con: too overhyped.
Yeah I can say this for BP. Wonderful acting though. Chad, Michael B Jordan, Okoye who is awesome in Walking Dead, Daniel Kaluuya from Get Out, Forrest..Great cast. I think another con was the CGI didn't seem as crisp as other MCU movies.

Saw this last week.

I thought it was really good. Not too overhyped imo so I wasn't unimpressed. Chadwick Boseman was a perfect fit for the role.

I think Wakanda and its technology will have a HUGE part in the Infinity Wars movies.

One thing's for sure, MCU is going to milk this franchise. It's still banking in its third weekend.

Went to see it for a second time today. Had to take the kids this time around. I just realized something that I missed before. I don't know how Killmonger got to Wakanda. I know he found the map when he was a kid, but how did he actually get there to battle T'Challa?

He took Claw's dead body on the plane and dragged it to the tribe of T'Challa's best friend. That tribe then escorted him to the throne room.

In less than a month... wow, pretty damn impressive for a lesser known Marvel character.

I actually enjoyed it more the second time. It's definitely #2 (behind Iron Man 1) on my list of best superhero movies.

I'm not particularly keen on watching this ( Superhero movie burnout?) but should I prior to watching Infinity war?
I have a feeling it won't be available online before IW comes out.

I would because Wakanda and it's technology (Black Panther's kingdom) will have a big part in the movie.

I didn't vibe with this movie.. I'm watching it and trying to understand where the hype is from.
I'm counting maybe 10 Marvel movies above it halfway through.

I particularly didn't vibe with Killmonger's character.
Spoiler
Why is he with Klaue if he just ends of in Wakanda without him.
How is he hood, but he's MIT SOF Merc with more kills than nations have people.

Character seemed corny, not comic bookish.. just corny.

I'm somewhat familiar with the comic characters and it just didn't work for me.
Spoiler
Until Killmonger went to the spirit world.. then T'Challa back to the spirit world.

That's when it connected with me.

Spoiler
Then T'Challa went back to Oakland.
It was uplifting and hopeful. It was righteous.
Coogler did his city and this movie justice. It's top 5 Marvel for me.. maybe 3.. maybe 1.
I'm still processing. It took a bit for me to connect, but it connected in a big way.

Some of the action scenes were great. The ladies killed it, they really stole the show for me.
Plus KDot and ending with Mozzy.. that was a cherry on top.

I should have rewatched Civil War before watching Black Panther

This scene makes a lot more sense and so much more depth

BS. The social preaching was from the hype leading in.

Enjoyed it. But, I'm not quite sure what was with all the hype...

THEN again, I think there is a bit of a "push" to go OMGOMG at any movie these days that touts "girl power" and some "minority power/theme".

I mean, I liked BP. Just didn't quite see how it was perfection as some critics had it...I can name a few other MCU flicks I liked more.

Same thing with Wonder Woman. It's like nobody had ever seen Aliens or Blade... But yeah, I liked it too.

You just compared a vampire to a whole advanced African nation full of superheroes.

No, I compared a vampire to a dude in a cat suit.

All I was trying to say was, it shouldn't be a big deal whether or not a sci-fi/action movie has a female or minority lead, and it's not really anything new, but people still seem to wanna make a big deal over it.

And for the record, I liked Black Panther a lot more than I liked Wonder Woman. So... I guess I'm more sexist than racist?

Edit: Although I also liked Aliens better than Blade...

I understand your point. I definitely agree that some people took it way too far and it was celebrated to a level beyond typical fandom. Aside from Blade however, the last lead superhero in a movie that was black was Meteor Man. As a black man it was refreshing seeing a badass, intelligent group of black lead actors kicking ass and a movie showing the diaspora between Africans and African Americans albeit a sci-fi. My nephews (ages 11 and 12) had a lot of questions and I was happy to address them with respect to how things are in the real world.

I think the movie became a conversation starter for a lot of people who did not know how to start the conversation about the issues black people around the world face. It did not make light of the issues but delivered them in a manner that's more palatable than a movie solely about slavery, the involuntary cruise millions of blacks took here a couple of hundred years ago, and the ongoing issues inner city youth face growing up (even though Killmonger was a learned and accomplished product of the inner city who used his skills and intelligence for a misguided revolution).

Some of the Marvel movies certainly have some depth to them with regard to the current state of society.

Sorry to take it to such a serious level but I prefer BP over WW so I guess I'm sexist too but then again Aliens is an all-time favorite of mine as well.

Yeah, you make an excellent point. It really is more than just the lead character/actor, in this case, so I guess that's pretty unique. And yes, Marvel does a really good job of organically building more serious stuff like that into their movies, without making it feel forced and while still making them really entertaining. It's a sign of a very good movie when it can work that well on multiple levels.

And @ Meteor Man. I guess you're right, although you did forget about Shaq in Steel.

thought it was pretty good
felt like that cheaped out on the effects when compared to others in the genre.
